HOPE & HEALING | A Creative Healing Group for UAB Student Veterans

Some experiences and losses can be difficult to put into words. Hope & Healing offers UAB student veterans impacted by su***de a supportive space to connect with fellow veterans, reflect through creative expression, and explore sources of strength, resilience, and hope.

Whether you’ve experienced the loss of a friend, family member, or fellow service member—or have been impacted by su***de through your own experiences—you are welcome. No art experience is needed, and dinner will be provided.

📅 Three Tuesday sessions:
October 6 • November 3 • December 1

⏰ 5:00–7:00 p.m.

📍 Collegiate Recovery Community
1102 12th St. S., Birmingham, AL

Interested in participating? Contact Demetrius Pearson at [email protected].

Hope & Healing is part of The Apology, a UAB Arts in Medicine initiative facilitated by artist Brendan Bannon that uses collaborative artmaking to support people affected by su***de loss, grief, and mental health challenges.

💚 Create. Connect. Find support.

April is Month of the Military Child, and at UAB, we’re taking a moment to celebrate the youngest members of our military family! 💜

Military children face unique challenges—from frequent moves to long deployments—yet they handle it all with incredible strength and resilience. To all the "military brats" in our UAB community: we see you, we honor your sacrifice, and we are proud to have you here.

Don't forget to verify your benefits at the end of each month to receive your stipend!

Don’t forget! As of January 2026, all Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) education beneficiaries, including Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance (Chapter 35) students, must verify their enrollment each month to receive benefit payments.

When it comes to verifying, you have options for what works best for you – verify via text, email, online, or through Ask VA.
