1 John 4:16 "And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them."
Another beautiful day the Lord had made.
Isaiah 46:4 "Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you."
Today's quote is by Billy Graham: If Christianity is valid, why is there so much evil in the world? To this the famous preacher replied, "With so much soap, why are there so many dirty people in the world? Christianity, like soap, must be personally applied if it is to make a difference in our lives."
As most of you know, the stories I share come from my week in review. This week, I found myself missing my mom, as I know my dad does too. Dad and I are taking a financial course together and enjoying the time we spend together learning. I think back to the childhood lessons I learned from my mom. I know it's a little early to talk about Christmas songs, but do you remember the Christmas song about Santa Claus coming to town? The song goes, "He’s making a list, and checking it twice. Gonna find out who’s naughty and nice..." Have you ever thought about the possibility that you might be on God's naughty list? There are things we say or do that do not glorify God. If God had a naughty list, then we would all be on it! Thank God that is not the case! John 1:17 says that Jesus came by “grace and truth.” John 1:17 "For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ." Truth is on the side of grace, not on the side of the law, performance, or works. You cannot earn Grace, it is an undeserved favor!
As Romans 4:4 says, “Now to the one who works, wages are not credited as a gift but as an obligation.” To earn the reward is the opposite of grace. The reward must be received unconditionally. Romans 4:6 "David says the same thing when he speaks of the blessedness of the one to whom God credits righteousness apart from works." This scripture teaches us that God attributes "righteousness" to our account without any requirement of works or good deeds on our part. We should strive to be "good" as defined by God in His Word out of our love for our Heavenly Father, our desire not to sin against Him, and because He has commanded us to be perfect as He is. Matthew 5:48 "Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect."
That person can only be Jesus Christ, the God-man, a descendant of Adam and our relative. 1 Corinthians 15:22 "For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive." Jesus stepped into history, lived a perfect life, and died on the Cross, taking our penalty of death for us. 2 Corinthians 5:21 "God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God." Now He offers the gift of eternal life and freedom from slavery to sin to all who will put their faith and trust in Him. Romans 10:9 "If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." And this has nothing to do with what we do but has everything to do with God’s mercy for us.
Ephesians 2:8–9 "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast." The way we naturally think about this is different from the way God works. The greatest gift of all, salvation through Jesus Christ, is given to us purely out of God’s amazing grace, and it is not something we deserve. In Christ, there is no "naughty" or "nice" list, and what we receive from Him is not earned or deserved. Under the covenant of grace, there is only grace for everyone at all times, not condemnation. As believers, we are all considered righteous. We have been made righteous through the blood of Jesus and His finished work at Calvary. So, there are no more lists, just grace. Believe in Him and freely receive God's grace. That’s our "soap." Let's use it!
2 Peter 1:2 "Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord."
