BBRC Executive Director Bob Dickerson shares his perspective in the Birmingham Business Journal, making the case that local purchasing should be treated as an economic development strategy, not just a procurement function.

Birmingham’s corporations, hospitals, universities, banks, and agencies spend billions each year. Directing more of that spending to qualified local businesses isn’t charity. It’s enlightened self-interest.

When a major institution purchases from a Birmingham business, it receives the product or service it needs. At the same time, that transaction helps a local company hire employees, purchase equipment, acquire property, strengthen its balance sheet, and become a stronger banking customer.

Birmingham Business Resource Center is proud to announce our new partnership with CLR Advising — bringing together two organizations committed to strengthening the businesses that strengthen our economy.

For years, our work has centered around helping entrepreneurs and business owners gain access to the capital, resources, technical assistance, and relationships they need to succeed.
