Barbara Burton created Chalker Group in 2013 to offer an effective recruiting solution for healthcare and academic organizations attracting top professionals and their spouses/partners from across the globe to the Birmingham-metro area. At Chalker, we don't just place people in jobs, we help them find home. That's been true since 2013, and it's still what gets us up every morning, now in both Birmingham and Huntsville.

Every candidate we work with is trusting us with something big: a new city, a new chapter, sometimes a whole new life for their family. We don't take that lightly. It's why we go beyond the job description, because a career move should feel like it fits, not just on paper, but in real life.

The Chalker Walkers were proud to take part in the 6th Annual UNCF Alabama Walk for Education this past Saturday. It was a meaningful morning spent alongside our community, coming together to support Casi, UNCF's Area Director, and the incredible work she does helping students achieve their dreams.

At Chalker Group, we believe in the power of connection, and this event was a wonderful reminder of what community can accomplish together.

As students head back to class this month, it felt like a good time to highlight something worth celebrating: the strength of Birmingham's school systems.

Meet Katie!

Having grown up in Birmingham, Katie is happy to be back home after 14 years of building her recruiting career in the nonprofit, tech, and media spaces in both Washington, D.C. and New York City. Her love of recruiting stems from a passion for helping people find connection and fulfillment in their day-to-day, and she's thrilled to bring that passion to the Chalker team.

Katie lives in Homewood with her husband and daughter, where you'll often find them strolling to the local library or Homewood Central Park. A dedicated foodie, she spends her weekends checking out new restaurants or cooking up something new with ingredients from Pepper Place Farmers Market.

Having experienced firsthand the joys and challenges of making a new place home, Katie is honored to walk alongside recruits as they navigate that same journey.

We had so much fun last night at the UAB Center for the Arts summer performance featuring Indian artist Vishnu Ramprasad and his self-invented instrument, the Navtar, alongside Birmingham-based guitar & violin duo Davis Little and Haleigh Black. 🎶

Jen recently had the privilege of graduating from Leadership Birmingham. As part of the program, each participant was placed in a small group and challenged to develop a project that would make Birmingham a better place. Jen's team wanted to create something that could have an immediate, lasting impact, so they focused on one of the most important needs in our community: mental health.

Together, they created the 11 Minutes Guide: a comprehensive mental health resource designed to help people quickly connect with support, whether they're looking for resources for themselves, a loved one or someone in crisis.

Their hope is simple: that this guide reaches the people who need it most.

Thank you to the incredible Leadership Birmingham teammates, class & everyone who helped bring this project to life. Here's to continuing to make Birmingham stronger, together!

This summer, the Chalker Group team has been traveling the globe.

From exploring the coastlines of Portugal and Croatia & Slovenia to adventures in Austria, Upstate New York, Steamboat, Colorado, Montana and Costa Rica, our team has been making memories, experiencing new cultures and enjoying time away from the office.

We love seeing our team embrace new places, recharge and bring those experiences back with them. Here’s to more adventures ahead!

Meet Caroline 🤍

A Birmingham native, Caroline brings a lifelong connection to the city and a deep passion for sharing its story. She joined Chalker Group in 2016 after more than 35 years of experience as a writer, editor, and community volunteer, much of which was spent at UAB, an institution she and her family have strong ties to.

Throughout her career, Caroline has been actively engaged in civic and nonprofit work across the Birmingham area, serving in a variety of leadership roles and supporting local organizations. She is also an avid cyclist and a strong advocate for the city’s road, gravel, and mountain biking communities.

Married to a Birmingham attorney, Caroline is the proud mother of two grown daughters and a new grandmother. She finds great fulfillment in her role with Chalker, where she is able to combine her professional background with her love for her hometown, helping to showcase the natural beauty, warmth, and vibrancy of Birmingham 🤍
