Our CALS students are making a global impact and shaping the future of agriculture. Read below to learn about the incredible work these students have done around the world 🌎.
1. Alyssa Lyons - PhD in Poultry Nutrition
“I had the opportunity this past summer to travel to Pirassununga, Brazil to collaborate with the University of São Paulo - Pirassununga on a broiler breeder hen research project. We do not have the facilities to conduct broiler breeder research and I thought this was a unique opportunity for me to learn another part of the poultry industry as well as learn about the poultry industry in Brazil. During the two months that I was in Brazil, I assisted graduate students at the university with collecting data and everyday activities at the farm. I was fortunate to receive a travel grant through CALS Global that provided funding towards my travel and lodging.
2. Moussa Tapsoba - M.S. in Agricultural, Leadership, and Community Education
“I have been working on a USDA funded project that aims at introducing US based college students to agricultural related majors. For the project, we had students learn how to do canning, then we went to Senegal to teach communities in Bambey, Senegal. My research for this project is to determine if the project is beneficial and sustainable for the communities we are working with.”
3. Carina Kaz - M.S. In Agricultural and Applied Economics
“This summer I interned for the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service in Manila, Philippines. As an intern I worked on commodity reports, trade policy, and agricultural development projects all in service to help ensure market access for U.S. agricultural goods.”
