🚒🔥 PUBLIC NOTICE: PRACTICE HOUSE BURN – SATURDAY, OCTOBER 17TH 🔥🚒

If you see smoke, flames, or an increased presence of fire trucks along Highway 75 this Saturday morning, don't be alarmed — it's a planned training exercise!

The Blair Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department, along with several neighboring fire departments, will be conducting a controlled practice house burn to provide our firefighters with valuable hands-on training.

📅 When: Saturday, October 17th, 2026
⏰ Time: Morning Hours
📍 Where: In the area of the 14000 Block of U.S. Highway 75

🔥 What can you expect?
- Visible smoke and flames coming from the training location.
- An increased presence of fire trucks and emergency personnel.
- Firefighters conducting live-fire training exercises throughout the morning.

🏠 Why do we do this?
Practice house burns provide an invaluable opportunity for our firefighters to train in realistic conditions. From fire suppression and hose advancement to teamwork and communication, these exercises help prepare our members for the real emergencies they respond to throughout the year.

We're also excited to have several neighboring fire departments joining us, allowing our crews to train together and strengthen the teamwork that is so important when responding to emergencies across our communities.

⚠️ We ask motorists traveling through the area to use caution, remain alert for emergency vehicles, and avoid stopping along the roadway to watch.

We appreciate the community's understanding and support as our firefighters dedicate their Saturday morning to sharpening their skills and becoming better prepared to protect you!

Train together. Respond together. Protect together. 🚒🔥

🥎🚒 THE BATTLE OF THE BADGES IS IN THE BOOKS! 🚓🏆

What a day of softball, friendly competition, and supporting a great cause!

First off, a HUGE congratulations to Douglas County Fire for taking home the CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY this year! 🏆🔥 You guys came ready to play and earned those bragging rights!

And to our brothers in blue at the Blair Police Department… congratulations on taking home ANOTHER win against us. 🙄🚓😂

Don’t worry, though. We’ve already added batting practice, fielding drills, and maybe a few extra conditioning sessions to next year’s training calendar. 🚒💪 Enjoy those bragging rights while you can, BPD!

But in all seriousness, today was about much more than wins and losses.

A HUGE thank you to everyone who came out, cheered on their favorite first responders, and supported the BYSA Blair, NE Next Inning Drive! ❤️🥎

Thank you to BYSA, all four teams, the volunteers, and everyone who helped make this tournament possible. It’s always great when first responders can come together, have some fun, and give back to the community we all serve!

Same time next year? We’re coming for that trophy! 🏆🔥

🥞🚒 THE PANCAKE TOUR CONTINUES! 🚒🥞

Blair’s Pancake Feed may be in the books, but pancake season is FAR from over!

We appreciate everyone who came out and supported BVFD this past weekend. Now it’s time to return the favor and show some love to the neighboring volunteer departments that are always there when we need them!

Up next:
🥞 Sunday, October 11 — Kennard Fire Rescue
🔥 Sunday, October 18 — Fort Calhoun Fire and Rescue
🚒 Sunday, November 8 — Herman Fire Department

These departments regularly work alongside us through mutual aid, training, and emergencies throughout our area. Supporting their fundraisers is a great way to support the volunteers who answer the call when their communities — and sometimes ours — need them most.

So tomorrow morning, skip cooking breakfast and head to Kennard! 🥞

Then keep those stretchy pants handy… because Fort Calhoun and Herman are still to come. 😂

Pancake season rolls on! Support your local volunteer fire departments! 🚒🥞❤️

🚒🔥 733 KIDS. ONE WEEK. COUNTLESS LESSONS IN FIRE SAFETY! 🔥🚒

What a week it has been for Blair Volunteer Fire & Rescue! 👨‍🚒👩‍🚒

Throughout Fire Prevention Week, our firefighters and EMTs have been busy visiting schools across Blair, teaching 733 kids about the importance of fire prevention and what to do in the event of an emergency! 🚨

From learning about smoke alarms and escape plans to seeing our firefighters in full turnout gear, we had an AWESOME time sharing important, potentially lifesaving lessons with the next generation! And judging by the smiles, laughs, and excitement, we think the kids had just as much fun as we did! 😁🚒

👏 A HUGE THANK YOU to Firefighter/EMT Steve Howard, who has been leading our department's fire prevention education efforts for an incredible 45 YEARS! His dedication to educating generations of Blair students is something truly special!

❤️ We also want to thank all of our firefighters and EMTs who took time out of their busy schedules to help with this week's visits, along with the teachers, staff, and schools who welcomed us into their classrooms!

733 kids reached this week means 733 more kids equipped with knowledge that could one day save a life. That's what Fire Prevention Week is all about!

📸 CHECK OUT THE PHOTOS BELOW! We've captured plenty of smiles, excitement, and memorable moments from our visits throughout the week!

🔥 Remember, fire safety doesn't stop when Fire Prevention Week ends! Take some time this weekend to talk with your family about fire safety, test your smoke alarms, and practice your home escape plan.

Thank you, Blair, for another fantastic Fire Prevention Week! 🚒❤️
