⚠️ A Small Shower Leak Turned Into a Major Mold Problem

This recent project is a dramatic example of why persistent water leaks should never be ignored.

An untreated shower leak allowed water to repeatedly enter the finished basement below. Because the moisture problem continued over time, significant mold-like growth developed on concealed building materials and surrounding contents.

But one of the most unusual things we discovered was in the carpet:

We included the photo with the cat for scale — some of the mushroom growth was surprisingly large.

⚠️ One Simple Laundry Habit Could Help Prevent Mold & Musty Odors

Newer front-load washing machines are designed to use less water, but moisture can remain trapped in the machine after the cycle is finished.

One area homeowners sometimes overlook is the detergent/soap drawer. It can remain wet after washing, and when the drawer stays closed, that moisture combined with detergent residue can create favorable conditions for mold and mildew.

⚠️ Hidden Mold Discovered During a Water Damage Project

Sometimes the damage you can see isn't the biggest problem.

During a recent water damage job, our team opened a finished basement wall and discovered evidence of a previous foundation repair. Unfortunately, moisture was still entering around a significant foundation crack.

Behind the drywall, insulation, and framing was a plastic v***r barrier. Because moisture was continuing to enter from the foundation side, the plastic created an area where moisture could become trapped inside the wall assembly.

When we pulled the plastic back, we discovered significant mold-like growth that had been concealed from view.
