Summit Pharmacy, a Fairfield, Iowa Independent Pharmacy Now 100% Solar Powered

Dr. Bryan Vander Linden, owner and fourth generation pharmacist, is excited for both the financial and environmental benefits of the new solar array.

Summit Pharmacy has announced the installation of a 17.16 kW solar array at their location in Fairfield, Iowa. The system consists of 39 solar panels mounted on the roof of their facility and will be producing clean energy for the business for many years to come.

“As with many businesses going solar, we are really excited about both the financial and environmental benefits. It’s exciting to be a local leader in clean energy adoption and the long term cost savings just made it an easy decision,” said Dr. Bryan Vander Linden, owner of Summit Pharmacy.

Choosing a renewable energy source that contributes to cleaner air quality aligns with Summit Pharmacy’s mission to meet its community’s health needs.

“Our whole goal is to take the time to know our community and provide them with their pharmaceutical needs to help improve their health and well being. We feel that running our business on a clean energy source like solar is a natural extension of that goal,” says Dr. Vander Linden.

The array was installed by Simpleray, another local company headquartered in Fairfield. The energy it produces will offset 100% of the pharmacy’s energy usage and offset 13 metric tons of CO2 emissions in its first year of operation. The life of the array is expected to be more than three decades.

Dr. Vander Linden added, “As a locally owned and operated small business, it was nice to be able to work with another local Fairfield company on our solar project.”

The pharmacy will be able to watch the array’s energy production live from a web-based application. Simpleray will also remotely monitor the system for efficiency and other issues from their offices over the next twenty-five years. SUMMARY: Perform key warehouse related activities such as shipping, receiving, packing, order picking, material staging, processing returns, inventory, and other as needed items to ensure smooth operations. Familiarity with electrical components and shipping/receiving is essential.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Items marked with * are essential job functions)

Maintain the Simpleray standards of Safety, Quality and Production in that order.*
Receive shipments, checking, documenting, & reporting damage. Refusing shipments as necessary due to damage.
Return materials to stock location.
Receive returns from jobs, checking, documenting, & reporting damage.
Pull materials from stock locations per job pick tickets.
Communicate material stock issues to supervisor.
Package materials for shipments to ensure safe delivery to end destination.
Prepare shipping labels & schedule delivery/pickup with common carrier freight companies as necessary.
Palletize larger orders for delivery.
Load orders onto trucks/trailers for delivery by hand and using equipment such as pallet jacks, fork lifts, lulls, etc.
Safely use warehouse equipment for placing and picking materials from storage areas.
Count inventory of products/warehouse as needed/directed.
Update information in real time in Warehouse/Inventory Management software.
Maintain clean & safe working environment.
Assist with organization of warehouse space for safety & efficiency.
Work with confidential information and understand critical nature of privacy.*
Work well under pressure and deadlines.*
Work well with a variety of software packages across multiple computing platforms.*
Have flexible availability based on ongoing work/task needs change.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements

Valid Driver's License

One of the more serendipitous discoveries resulting from the recent growth of solar has been the mutually beneficial pairing of sheep and large ground mount solar arrays. Ground maintenance is a major consideration for large ground mounted arrays. The overgrowth of vegetation can become problematic....

About this project:
This 353 kW installation at Orange Crush LLC, an asphalt plant in East Dundee, IL, offsets 100% of their energy usage. Unique challenges were presented due to spatial constraints but some creative engineering resulted in a "bleacher-like" installation upon an existing 20' tall privacy berm.
