I am pleased to announce that I have accepted the position of Honorary Professor at the University of Nottingham. Today also marks my 50 years of active participation in the asphalt industry. A half century seems a long time. I started in the laboratory working for Tarmac Roadstone …. the first test I ever conducted was a bulk density test of blast furnace slag at the Corby Tarmac works - very similar to what we call a rodded dry density as is used in the Bailey method mix design. After being in the industry for 10 years, I joined the University of Nottingham as a Teaching Company Associate for a couple of years before then continuing with SWK Pavement Engineering. I had a pleasure to work on the Strategic Highway Research Project (SHRP) at the end of the 80s early 1990s which enabled me to register for my PhD at the University of Nottingham - so now on my fiftieth work anniversary I am delighted to have this recognition from my old University.
