Rumpke appreciates the support it has received from the community to build a Resource Recovery Facility in Monroe County, Indiana. The facility has numerous benefits for the County, its residents and businesses, and we are excited to bring it to fruition. While we have secured several approvals for the site, we are still in the permitting stages. We recently submitted our IDEM application. We will provide updates as we learn more about permitting progress.

Obtaining approval from the Monroe County Solid Waste Management District was only the first step in a lengthy process to build the Rumpke Monroe County Resource Recovery Facility. There are still a lot of steps to bring this much needed facility to fruition, including approvals from:
1. Monroe County Board of County Commissioners (BCC)
2. Monroe County Health Department
3. Monroe County Planning and Board of Zoning Appeals
4. Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM)

As we continue our efforts to grow recycling in Monroe County and give residents and businesses more options for waste disposal, we would appreciate your support for the project.

Did you know that Monroe County continues to see an increase in trash rates? Trash collected in the County has grown 20,000 tons per year in 5 years. At this pace, 80,000 new tons per year will require handling in Monroe County over the next 20 years.
The Rumpke Monroe County Resource Recovery Facility will ensure the County has enough disposal options to process this growth, providing access to more landfills, recycling facilities and manufacturers for recovered recyclables.

Glass recycling is an important part of Rumpke's proposed Resource Recovery Facility. The site will act as a central hub to consolidate glass collected in Monroe County and the surrounding area before shipping it to our glass recycling facility in Dayton, Ohio, which was just recognized by the Glass Recycling Coalition as a gold level site for providing end users with a high quality of glass.

Rumpke Waste & Recycling and Sims Municipal Recycling have received the coalition’s highest certification level.

This afternoon, the Monroe County Solid Waste District adopted Resolution 2020-11 that states Rumpke's proposed Resource Recovery Facility is needed and consistent with the District's Solid Waste Plan. We appreciated the opportunity to address questions from the community during today's meeting. If you have a question about the project - please ask. There are still many steps to bringing this facility to fruition, and we want to keep the community informed of any developments.

There has been a lot of misinformation shared regarding our proposed Resource Recovery Facility. Rumpke hopes to build a recycling facility and transfer station in Monroe County – not a landfill. The addition of this multi-million dollar facility will expand recycling and disposal options throughout the county, adding efficiency and controlling costs for residents and businesses.

Rumpke believes in open, transparent communications and maintains an open-door policy. If you have a question about the project, please ask. And please also share this page with neighbors with questions about the site.
