Do you share trail camera pictures and sightings with your neighbors? What do you think the pros and cons are of doing so?

The pictures below are of a buck that I first got pictures of back in 2020 as a 2.5 year old. He was well known in the area and multiple people were hunting him, until a neighbor got him in late 2023 as a 5.5 year old.

These two cameras are only about 50 yards apart, but they monitor completely different trails running North and South with the same trail running East and West. The East/West trail was completely blocked by numerous large trees that had been blown down over the summer, and deer had all but stopped using it.
Several hours with a chainsaw and installing a couple of mock scrapes, and activity has seemed to return.

Stand sites can go bad for numerous reasons, but don’t overlook what Mother Nature might have done upstream or downstream. It could be something as simple as clearing the path and patterns might return to normal.

Which is harder to outsmart, a mature buck or a mature doe?

I’ve witnessed mature does use their fawns as decoys so that the doe can remain in the cover and watch for danger. Any animal willing to do that gets my my vote for placing survival at the top of the list!

With that being said, I think mature bucks are harder to kill simply because there is less of them.

Seeing big mature bucks is always exciting, but I get almost as excited when I see a young buck that shows the potential...

Seeing big mature bucks is always exciting, but I get almost as excited when I see a young buck that shows the potential to be something very special.

I got these pictures a little over a week ago of what I believe is a 2 to year old buck that already has a 10 point frame with a split right g2! Obviously he doesn’t score much right now, but with that many points along with those narly brow tines, I’d be willing to bet he will throw some non-typical points around his bases!

Well, better late than never!

Between work and my personal life, I just haven’t had time to get it done, but I was finally able to get my 360 Hunting Blind Pro 360 put up today. My primary focus this early season is to get my son his first deer and getting this blind put up will definitely help increase our chances of success!

Did you know that poison arrows were perfectly legal in many states back in the 60’s and 70’s for many years? Even some extremely well known archers openly promoted them, with Fred Bear being one!

What are your thoughts on this? Does it change your opinion or make you think less of him, knowing that the legendary Fred Bear not only used, but he also promoted and even patented a “poison pod”?

Archery and bowhunting is ever evolving, and not everyone agrees with some of the changes. It’s important to remember that not everything that is legal is ethical, and not everything that is ethical is legal!

Things are looking promising for youth season this year. My son and I got a new ground blind put up on Saturday and several potential candidates walked the trail 15 yards in front of it Sunday morning.

Teaching and taking a youngster hunting is definitely a learning curve. The things we take for granted as experienced hunters can be huge hurdles for a kid to overcome. Everything from keeping them comfortable and entertained, to making sure the shot opportunities are as easy as possible can be a challenge!

The ground blind isn’t visible in pictures below, but it is about 20 yards from the camera up the hill straight up from the mock scrape.
