🍸 Some spaces are built to serve cocktails. The best ones become part of the experience. From cozy lounge settings to lively casino bars, we love designing spaces that set the mood and keep guests coming back.

On World Cocktail Day, we’re celebrating a few of the hospitality spaces we’ve had the opportunity to bring to life over the years:
📍 Four Winds Casino | South Bend, IN
📍 JW Marriott Mall of America | Bloomington, MN
📍 Northstar Center | Minneapolis, MN
📍 Potawatomi Casino & Hotel | Milwaukee, WI
📍 Resorts World Catskills | Monticello, NY

Great hospitality design is about more than what’s on the menu. It’s about creating spaces that stay with people long after the evening ends. 🥂

🎉 Cheers to Ben Sundin on celebrating his one-year anniversary with Rippe Associates!

Over the past year, Ben has quickly become an invaluable part of the team through his passion for equipment, commitment to learning, and willingness to jump in wherever needed. His dedication, responsiveness, and positive attitude have made a lasting impact, and if you ask his teammates, it feels like he’s been part of Rippe for years.

Ben has exceeded expectations from day one, and we’re grateful for the energy and commitment he brings to every project and challenge. We’re excited to see all he continues to accomplish as part of the Rippe team.

Congrats on an amazing first year, Ben! 👏

As part of our AIA Continuing Education series, we’re also looking at how smaller, high-intensity spaces perform.

🍸 Bars That Work: Fundamentals of Bar Planning & Support | (1.0 LU)

Bar environments are often compact, but highly complex. Spacing, bar height and depth, construction detailing, and support infrastructure all play a critical role in how these spaces function under real operating conditions.

This program focuses on how programming decisions translate into spatial requirements, and where common assumptions can lead to challenges in workflow, coordination, and long-term usability.

For teams working in hospitality, gaming, or mixed-use environments, this session provides practical insight into aligning design expectations with operational reality.

This coffee shop and bistro is anything but a typical hospital café: it is designed as a wellness-driven destination that blends hospitality, nutrition, and clinical awareness. With features like pre-order pickup cubbies for staff convenience and a menu centered around fresh, nutritionally focused offerings, the space is built to support patients, families, and caregivers alike.

Even more impactful, the entire facility embraces healing through design—flooded with natural light and offering calming bay views at every turn, creating an environment where the space itself contributes to care and comfort.

A big thank you to CannonDesign, TLC Engineering Solutions, and Brasfield & Gorrie, LLC for the incredible collaboration in bringing this thoughtful, restorative vision to life. 🙌 We’re proud to be part of a project where every detail supports a higher purpose, true in action.

Happy 1 year anniversary to two incredible team members at Rippe Associates, Payton Hartman and Theresa Gervenak 🎉

From day one, both Theresa and Payton have brought curiosity, energy, and a genuine commitment to doing great work for our clients and our team. Over the past year, they’ve not only grown in their roles, but they’ve helped move Rippe forward.

Theresa has made her mark through her thoughtful approach and dedication to delivering meaningful insights. She shows up every day ready to learn, contribute, and make a difference.

Payton has brought a strong sense of ownership, positivity, and humor, consistently finding ways to add value and build strong relationships across the firm.

What stands out most, though, is the mindset they share. They’re both the kind of people who make things easier for everyone around them, pitching in, learning as they go, and consistently showing up in a way that supports the team.

One year in, and their impact is already clear. We’re grateful they’re here, and excited to see what the future brings! 👏

In our new AIA Continuing Education series, we’re starting with the systems that drive everything else.

🍽️ Kitchens That Work: Fundamentals of Foodservice Design | 1.0 LU

Commercial kitchens are one of the most infrastructure-intensive environments in a building. Early planning decisions around workflow, zoning, walk-ins, and equipment, directly impact spatial requirements, coordination, and MEP system design.

This program explores how foodservice planning integrates with architectural design and how early coordination can reduce risk, improve efficiency, and support long-term performance.

If your team is involved in projects where kitchens play a role, this session provides a clear framework for understanding how these systems influence the broader design. ⚙️

Let us know if you’d like to schedule a session for your team!

🌎 Just in time for Earth Day, we’re celebrating a great accomplishment on our team!

Karen Thompson has officially earned her LEED AP BD+C accreditation 👏 This isn’t only a personal milestone, it’s also a meaningful step forward for our clients and the environments they serve. With a LEED-accredited Project Manager on our team, projects pursuing certification can earn additional points, bringing smarter, more sustainable outcomes within closer reach.

We’ve had the opportunity to support LEED-certified projects across a variety of sectors, including:
📍 Boston Scientific | Arbor Lakes, MN
📍 Des Moines University | Des Moines, IA
📍 Great River Energy | Minnesota
📍 Iowa State University – Stark Performance Center | Ames, IA
📍 Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital | California

As we celebrate Earth Day, it’s a good reminder that thoughtful design decisions add up, and that the people behind them make the difference.

Congrats again, Karen! 🙌

We’re excited to introduce a new AIA Continuing Education series from Rippe Associates!

Built for architects and design professionals, this series tackles the real coordination challenges behind foodservice and hospitality environments, where operations, space planning, and infrastructure must work together seamlessly.

Our first two programs are now available:
🍽️ Kitchens That Work: Fundamentals of Foodservice Design (1.0 LU)
🍸 Bars That Work: Fundamentals of Bar Planning & Support (1.0 LU)

Each course is built around practical planning principles that support better coordination, clearer decision-making, and more successful project outcomes.

We’ll be sharing more on each program in the coming weeks. If your team is planning CE sessions, we’d love to connect!

🎉 Celebrating 45 Years of Kitchens That Work 🎉

Since 1981, Rippe Associates has been driven by a simple purpose: design kitchens and foodservice spaces that work, for operators, staff, and the communities they serve.

What started in healthcare has grown into something much bigger.

Over 45 years, we’ve had the privilege to:
✔️ Expand into hospitality, higher education, K-12 schools, civic & justice, corporate, and community spaces
✔️ Complete 1,650+ projects nationwide
✔️ Build a passionate, driven team
✔️ Partner with incredible clients who trust us to bring their visions to life

But more than the numbers, we’re most proud of this:
👉 The relationships we’ve built
👉 The people behind the work
👉 The impact these spaces have every day

Because our work has never been just about kitchens. It’s about people, purpose, and performance.

To our clients, partners, and team members, thank you! You’ve made the past 45 years possible. And we’re just getting started.
