Most business owners can tell you what's wrong with their business.

Sales are down.
Margins are shrinking.
Employees aren't performing.
Customers are frustrated.

But here's my question:
Are those the problems... or just the symptoms?

As business owners, we're often like a person taking aspirin for a headache while ignoring the fact that they're only sleeping four hours a night. 😄

The most successful leaders don't just solve visible problems, they identify where the problem actually lives.

Here is my "CGL" framework:
✅ Clarity – Understand what is really happening.
✅ Growth – Focus on the actions that create results.
✅ Leadership – Build the people and systems to sustain success.

As mentioned recently, in coaching, I often ask clients to evaluate four key areas:
• Business & Career
• Financial Independence
• Health & Fitness
• Family & Relationships

Why?

Because a business problem isn't always a business problem.
Sometimes it's a leadership problem.
Sometimes it's a clarity problem.
Sometimes it's an owner trying to do $25/hour work when their time is worth $250/hour.

The leaders who grow the fastest are the ones who stop chasing symptoms and start identifying their true focal point. When you know where the problem lives, you know where to start.

What's one challenge in your business today that might be a symptom of a bigger issue?

One of the biggest mistakes I see business owners and leaders make is measuring success by only one scorecard: business results.

Revenue is important.
Profit matters.
Growth is exciting.

But if those wins come at the expense of your health, relationships, finances, or personal fulfillment, are you really winning?

I use a simple exercise that asks us to evaluate four key areas of life:
✅ Business & Career
✅ Financial Independence
✅ Health & Fitness
✅ Family & Relationships

Rate yourself from 1-10 in each area.

What does your "diamond" look like?

Most leaders discover they have one or two areas thriving while another is quietly demanding attention.

The real breakthrough comes when you identify your "X" factor, the one area of focus that will create the greatest positive impact right now.

As leaders, we often spend too much time working IN our business and not enough time working ON ourselves.

Success isn't about reaching the top of the mountain alone.

It's about arriving there with your health, relationships, and purpose intact.

If you had to improve just one area by one point over the next 90 days, which would it be?

A fellow coach and good friend shared a post this week that really got me thinking...

Ever hear that little voice in your head say:
🔵 "Someone is already doing that."
🔵 "What if it doesn't work?"
🔵 "You're doing just fine where you are."

I think we've all been there.

As a business coach, I spend a lot of time helping leaders think bigger. What's interesting is that most people don't need more talent, more resources, or more opportunity.

They need fewer self imposed limitations.

Lately, I've been asking myself a simple question:
"Am I thinking big enough?"

Not because I'm ungrateful, I'm incredibly thankful for my family, my business, my clients, my friends, and the opportunities I've been blessed with.

What I've realized is that fear, doubt, anxiety, rejection, and even comfort have a sneaky way of shrinking our vision.

They convince us to settle for "good enough" instead of pursuing what's possible.

But what if we started listening to a different voice?
🔵 "What if it does work?"
🔵 "What if you're capable of more?"
🔵 "What if the biggest risk is staying exactly where you are?"

As leaders, we often encourage our teams to embrace change, take calculated risks, and stretch beyond their comfort zones.

The real question is:
Are we doing the same?

I've become convinced that the biggest obstacle to growth usually isn't the economy, the competition, the market, or even a lack of opportunity.
It's the six inches between our ears.

Get to the Point:
THINK BIGGER!

“I just need more time.”

I hear this almost daily from clients.

My response is usually something like, "Interesting... because I checked and Amazon, Apple, and your competitor down the street all seem to be operating with the same 24 hours." 😊

But what if time isn't really the problem?

In my experience, most leaders and teams don't have a time problem. They have a clarity problem, a prioritization problem, or a process problem.

Think about it:
• Are we crystal clear on our goals?
• Do we know what our highest value activities are?
• Are we spending time on things that truly move the needle?
• Have we created efficient processes, or are we constantly reinventing the wheel because "this time it's different"?

The goal isn't to squeeze more work into the day or simply work harder.

The goal is to eliminate low value activities so we can spend more time on high value activities that serve clients, build relationships, develop our people, and grow our business.

Every one of us has the same 24 hours. The difference often comes down to how intentionally we use them.

Sometimes the breakthrough isn't finding more time, it's finally deciding what deserves your time.

What Does a Business & Executive Coach Actually Do?

When people hear "business coach," they sometimes picture a person standing on a stage yelling motivational slogans or sending inspirational quotes at 5:00 a.m.

That's not me. 😊 (well maybe sometimes...)

As a FocalPoint Business & Executive Coach, we work with business owners, executives and leaders on the real world issues that determine whether a business grows, stalls, or occasionally makes you question your life choices.

Things like:
✅ Increasing revenue and profitability
✅ Building leadership teams
✅ Hiring, developing, and retaining great people
✅ Improving accountability and ex*****on
✅ Creating systems that don't require the owner to be involved in every decision
✅ Succession and exit planning
✅ Helping leaders spend more time working ON the business instead of constantly working IN it

No teaching theory from a textbook, just simple application.

We've sat in the chair.
We've made the tough decisions.
We've hired the wrong people.
We've navigated growth, setbacks, leadership challenges, and everything in between.

My role isn't to tell you what to do. My role is to help you think differently, gain clarity, identify blind spots, and execute at a higher level.

Sometimes the biggest thing standing between a business and its next level of growth isn't the market...
It's the leader.

If you're a business owner, executive or leader who's feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or simply looking for a sounding board and strategic partner, I'd be happy to grab a coffee (virtually coffee will work also) and have a conversation.

No pressure. No sales pitch. Just two business people talking business.

On a recent 4-hour flight from Illinois to California, I found myself doing something I often do when traveling, staring out the airplane window pretending I’m deep and philosophical 😊

But honestly, looking down from 30,000 feet always gives me perspective on business and leadership.

From above, some areas were crystal clear. You could see roads, structure, direction, and sometimes movement.

Other areas? Completely covered by clouds. Basically looked like some businesses feel on a Monday morning 😯

As leaders, we’re often so buried in the day to day that we lose perspective. Meetings, fires to put out, people issues, sales pressure, hiring challenges, endless decisions and somewhere in the middle of all that, clarity can disappear.

Not just for us, but for our teams too.

So here’s the question:

How does your business look to your team right now?
Clear vision?
Clear direction?
Clear communication?
Clear expectations?

Or does it feel like everyone’s flying through turbulence hoping somebody in the cockpit knows where they’re going? 😅

One of the greatest things a leader can do is create clarity:
• Clarity of vision
• Clarity of roles
• Clarity of culture
• Clarity of expectations

Sometimes the most important thing we can do is step back, stop reacting for a moment, and look at the business from above again.

That’s often where the best breakthroughs happen.

Mindset Matters

One person sees a cat and another sees a lion. Two people can face the exact same situation and see completely different possibilities. One sees limits and the other sees growth, opportunity and strength.

Your mindset helps shape:
🔵 how you respond to adversity
🔵 how long you stay stuck
🔵 what you believe is possible
🔵 and ultimately the direction of your life and leadership

Control the controllables.

Are you feeding the mindset of the cat...or the lion?

Sometimes the issue isn’t your effort, it’s the environment.

Stay in the wrong room too long, and you’ll start questioning your value instead of questioning whether you’re in the right place.

Not everyone is meant to recognize what you bring and that’s fine.

Your responsibility is to position yourself where your standards, discipline, and leadership are aligned and valued.

Don’t downshift your potential just to stay comfortable. Growth rarely lives there.

What would it look like to put yourself in a room where your standards are the baseline, not the exception?

Mull over that question for a bit! Happy Tuesday!

This is no joke!

Spring Break is over for most…and a lot of you came back inspired.

New ideas. Clear mind. Big goals.

You asked yourself, "Why don't I just move here"
You told yourself, “I’m ready. Let’s go.”

Now it’s April 1. New quarter. Fresh energy.
..but suddenly:
The routine slips.
Mornings get slower.
Old habits start creeping back in.

Here’s the POINT 🔵 :
It’s not a motivation problem.
Motivation got you excited on the beach.
Habits are what get you moving on a random Wednesday.

Welcome to Q2.
Lock 🔒 back in on your habits or create some new ones!
