Mosquito Beach sunrise

Mosquito Beach is a remote, scenic destination on Lake Superior inside Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, just east of Munising, Michigan. Famous for its sandstone terraces, clear waters, and the mouth of the tannin-stained Mosquito River, it is reached via a 4-mile round-trip hike through a lowland hemlock and conifer forest, near Chapel Falls and Chapel Rock.

The Chicago Stock Exchange Arch

…is one of the few surviving large-scale fragments from the Chicago Stock Exchange building, designed in 1893 Dankmar Adler and Louis Sullivan.

Widely considered an architectural masterpiece, the thirteen-story building incorporated Sullivan’s signature ornamentation that combined geometric forms with expressions of natural foliage.

After the building was demolished in 1972, the arch was installed outside of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Big Boy barrels through Blue Island

Returning from Philadelphia, Union Pacific Big Boy #4014 left the Union Pacific Railroad Yard Center in South Holland on July 17, then traveled through Blue island, Alsip and Oak Lawn, heading west on a massive coast-to-coast tour to celebrate America's 250th birthday.

On July 4, 1776, the Second Continental Congress in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, unanimously adopted the Declaration of Independence. This historic document severed the 13 American colonies' political ties to Great Britain, announcing their separation and officially establishing the United States of America.
