The North Georgia Mountains are home to Lake Blue Ridge, one of the most stunning mountain lakes you'll find in the state! This beautiful lake stretches across 3,290 acres and was created when the Blue Ridge Dam was built back in 1930. The clear water comes from the Toccoa River, and the entire area is wrapped in the forest of the Chattahoochee National Forest. What really stands out is how natural it still feels, with more than 80% of the shoreline left undeveloped, giving you wide open views of the mountains rising up around the water. There are plenty of ways to spend time here, whether you’re putting in a boat, renting a pontoon or kayak from Lake Blue Ridge Marina, or dropping a line to catch bass, walleye, or crappie. You’ll also find a sandy beach for swimming, quiet campsites along the shore, and nearby paths like the Lake Blue Ridge Loop for an easy walk. The water has a bright blue-green color that makes every angle look like it belongs in a photo.
