That’s a wrap MTA show 2026 was awesome! Rounding out the year strong with my 3rd “Best of category” on this little squirrel! Holly cow, I find it hard to describe the way it feels to be an artist every day, and to find success, success awarded by my peers, among my peers. The incredible group of people that I find myself around at every show, can only be described at truly American. The toughest, most driven, most talented people I know come out of the taxidermy world. I thank EVERYONE who has inspired me, critiqued me, taught, mentored and praised me. I walked around that show room so many times, the quality of work and the artistry there sets a high bar, but I like a challenge. I’ve got big goals for next year, and I’m itching to get rolling! Congratulations to everyone! Good luck, be safe, and see y’all next year!

WHAT A WEEKEND! The 2026 Illinois Taxidermy Association show is in the books! My first ever show being on the board, taking over the kids seminar and competing in the masters division! So many milestones packed into one weekend! I cannot express in words how thankful I am to every member of the association for creating such an amazing community of artists. I also can’t thank the amazing judges of the show enough for all of their knowledge, tips, tricks and critiques. Because of this I’ve grow faster and learned so much in what feels like so little time. It’s an honor and a privilege to be a part of and represent everyone in this community!

Ok so here’s the recap! For the first time I competed at the master level with my black squirrel. I truly wanted to be critiqued and judged at a higher level. But the last thing I expected was to recive a 1st and State Champion! WOW, just wow. I also brought along a bobcat and another squirrel, a last minute decision, and oh boy am I thrilled that I did it. I received a first on the cat and Division champion, as well as the Best Profesional Mammal special award. Lastly I had to bring a deer, I got my highest score ever on a whitetail, still a second but on the edge of first. Then I got a very special award for the deer, the IFOR Best Gamehead. Thank you Scottie!

I’m wore out but inspired , and when the sun rises tomorrow and will be itching to get back in the shop. I’m ready to get more work done, to learn to grow and to improve. Back to the grind!

THATS A WRAP! I had an amazing time at the Iowa Taxidermy Association State show! The last thing I expected was to take division champion in the professional small mammal category with my black squirrel! I also received the sculptor award on the squirrel for my efforts in creating my own form! And last but not least I got a solid second place score on my whitetail. This is the highest score I’ve received on a whitetail yet ! I cannot thank Abel Everage (mammals) and Larry O’Mally (whitetail) enough. These two were the judges at my very first show four years ago. To be able to hear both of them say they see the improvement in my work and to receive scores to back it up blows my mind. I also want to thank the Iowa association for putting on this show and being welcoming to an out-of-stater like myself! I will make it a point to continue to return to their show!Taxidermy has taken me farther than I ever could have imagined, and I’m not stopping here!
