Rick DeChant Joins AYC Advisory Board

AYC Security is pleased to announced that Mr. Rick DeChant has joined the AYC Security advisory board.

Mr. DeChant brings to AYC Security over 44 years of experience in crisis management, public affairs, military affairs, government affairs, and strategic planning.

Rick served with the Department of Homeland Security as its Assistant Federal Security Director for TSA Operations in Northeast Ohio. During his tenure with the TSA he was awarded both the Department Homeland Security Heroism Award and The Cleveland Police Department 2006 Citizen Heroism Award for helping to subdue an armed gunman at Cleveland Hopkins Airport who had shot and wounded a Cleveland Police officer.

He is retired Commander with 21 years of service in the Coast Guard Reserve, including combat tours in the Middle East for Gulf War I, in Haiti in 1994, and again when he served in Iraq and Kuwait for Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003/2004. In recognition of his military service, his work in homeland security, and his efforts in veteran education issues, Rick was inducted into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame on November 9, 2017, and was awarded The America Nationalities Movement Freedom Award in 2019.

For twelve years Rick served as the Executive Director of the Tri-C Veterans Initiative where he provided overall leadership, direction, and coordination for all Veterans Services initiatives within Cuyahoga Community College. Under his direction the Veterans Initiative generated $25 million in GI Bill and other military tuition revenue for the College.

Rick holds a BA in Communications from John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio. He and his wife of 44 years, Sharon, reside in Fairview Park, Ohio and are the parents of two grown children.

Aws Maliki is a highly accomplished professional with a unique blend of expertise in both International Trade Compliance and military service. This diverse background equips him with a unique perspective and a valuable skillset that transcends traditional boundaries.

Prior to joining AYC Security, Mr. Maliki served as a Senior International Trade Compliance Specialist within the military aerospace industry. In this role, he demonstrated a deep understanding of complex export control regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR). Focusing initially on tactical intelligence for private actors and businesses (e.g., surveillance, technical surveillance countermeasures, corporate intelligence, etc.), AYC-I leverages the decades of experience in law enforcement, law, and intelligence work that resides in our management team to provide world class intelligence product to those we serve.

AYC Security is pleased to announce that Robert Leonhard, Ph.D, Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.), USA has joined the AYC Security advisory board.

Mr. Leonhard joined the United States Army in 1979, and over the course of his career served as an infantry officer, planner, strategist, and combat developer. He has led units from platoon through battalion level, and served in Operation Desert Storm in a mechanized infantry task force. Working as a combat developer at the Infantry School, he later helped coordinate the Digital Division exercises at Fort Hood. He then trained as a war planner at the School of Advanced Military Studies and served as Chief of Plans, 4th Infantry Division.

Shortly after leaving the Army, Mr. Leonhard began working for the Central Intelligence Agency providing instruction in joint operations and future warfare to defense analysts from various US government agencies, including the CIA, DIA, the military services, and others. He continues in this position to this day.

From 2001 to 2004, Mr. Leonhard worked at Joint Forces Command, where he wrote the Joint Operational Warfighting Concept for Joint Forces Command, J9. He developed the main ideas of warfighting culture, complex-adaptive-systems, singular battlespace, future operations, and adaptive command.

Beginning in 2004, Mr. Leonhard began working at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory as a senior research analyst. In that capacity he created scenarios in support of Naval Expeditionary Health Service Support; designed a simulation of Customs and Border Protection operations; designed wargames for EUCOM logistics and force deployment and for AFRICOM strategy and operations; led policy wargames for OSD-Policy; designed and conducted logistics wargames for EUCOM; and much more.

Mr. Leonhard received his Ph.D in early United States history from West Virginia University, and has a master of arts in military arts and sciences and a master of science degree in international relations.

Stacy Clardy is a retired U.S. Marine Corps lieutenant general who uses his experience, knowledge, and skills to help others and promote growth. He is an infantry officer with over 38 years of service and command experience from platoon to marine expeditionary force level. AYC Security is honored to have retired Lieutenant-Colonel James MacMillan, formerly of the Canadian Army, join the AYC Security advisory board.

Mr. MacMillan has practiced law for nearly four decades and served as an officer in the Canadian Armed Forces for more than thirty years.

In these roles he has been involved in simple and complex investigations on subjects ranging from professional and sexual misconduct, to missing weapons, suicides and collisions at sea.
