Ram Kumar moved to New Delhi in 1945 in pursuit of formal art education, where he studied under Sailoz Mookherjea. He would soon leave for Paris to further his studies. Ram Kumar was known for his abstract figurative works and earth-toned color palettes. His cityscapes (c. early 1960s) depict the human condition and the phenomenon of human isolation in a crowded city, whereas his landscapes (c. late 1960s) portray a delight in nature. Kumar remains an integral part of the first-generation post-colonial Indian artists.

Johnny Friedlaender (1912-1992) was a leading European 20th century artist, best known for his pioneering use of etching. Friedlaender was born in Pless, Upper Silesia (modern day Poland), but refugeed to Breslau in 1921. At the age of 16, he enrolled at the Breslau Art Academy, where he studied under the Expressionist Otto Mueller. By 1930, Friedlaender had started exhibiting his works. Friedlaender soon gained international notoriety for his innovation in colored printmaking. As a result of his work, a school formed in Paris.
