A little bit about the pastor of Faith Presbyterian Church:
Jim plays the ukulele like Tiny Tim.
He plays the banjo like Grandpa Jones.
He plays the guitar like Mel Bay. (that's how he learned)
Whether delivering one of his own tunes or sending up one of his patented parodies of someone else's, one thing is true... he's not just another pretty voice!
Jim grew up on Ray Stevens and the Smothers Brothers. He has been writing and singing his own songs and parodying other people's songs since 1971. His original music takes humor seriously and has been described as "eclectic." (he had to go look that up.) He calls his parodies, "Revised Standard Versions," giving a gospel twist to the Beach Boys, the Bangles, Madonna, Olivia Newton John, Michael Jackson, Toby Keith, Mac Davis, Janis Joplin, Chuck Berry, Willie Nelson and Julio Iglesias.
Jim (a.k.a. the Rev. Dr. G) has been a Presbyterian pastor since 1977 and currently is serving as the pastor of Faith Presbyterian in Baytown Texas. He named his band the "Altar'd Egos" because, "You have to lay your ego on the altar to play with him since there ain't no glory to be had." He and his band will be coming to Boerne on October 22nd to play a benefit concert for his friends in Baytown that were flooded by Hurricane Harvey.
