If your house has a sunny south or west wall, you may see it covered in lady beetles over the next few weeks.
These are multicolored Asian lady beetles. In October and November they look for somewhere to spend the winter, and a warm wall with a gap in the siding or a torn window screen is exactly that.
Spraying the ones you see doesn't stop the next wave. Sealing cracks and fixing screens does. That's Clemson Extension's advice too, and it's how we handle it.

One more thing: don't crush them indoors. They can leave a yellow stain and a smell. A vacuum works better.

It's Fire Prevention Week, so here's one thing we check that most people never think about.

When we inspect for rodents, we look at the wiring in the attic. Mice and rats gnaw constantly because their teeth never stop growing, and the plastic coating on a wire is soft enough to chew.

If we find gnaw marks on wiring, we photograph them, show you, and recommend an electrician take a look. That's part of doing the job right.

Buying a home in South Carolina? You'll hear "CL-100" before closing. Here's what it is.

It's the Official South Carolina Wood Infestation Report. A licensed inspector checks the home for termites and other wood-destroying insects, damage from past infestations, wood decay fungi and moisture problems.

Most lenders won't finance without a clear one. And it's only good for 30 days, so timing matters.

I'm licensed to issue CL-100s across Greenville, Spartanburg and Cherokee counties. Agents and buyers: if you want a report explained in plain English, call or text (864) 816-7658.

The Spartanburg International Festival is today, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. It's been going since 1985, and it's one of the best days of the year in this city.

Go hungry. And if you see the Paladin truck around town this weekend, wave.

The nights are getting cooler across the Upstate, and mice notice before we do.

This is when they start looking for a warm, protected place to spend the winter. A gap around an AC line, a worn garage door seal or an open vent will do. A mouse can fit through an opening as small as a 1/4 inch.

Most of the entry points we find are ones homeowners walk past every day without seeing them.

If you want to know where yours are, that's what the inspection is for. Call or text (864) 816-7658 to get one set up today.
