Happy March! Gardening is here! There’s plenty to do this month! Soil is workable and ready for direct seed! Cool season veggies can get transplanted in the ground! Warm season is around the corner so prepare to start warm season crops at the end of March for zone 7! But also don’t stress. There’s plenty of time for a garden.

February is the start of indoor seed starting for zone 7! It’s also a great month to do winter sowing of ALL seed varieties. More to come on this down the road. Take this time to continue to make your plan and make the appropriate appointments with landscape professionals…spring is a busy time and waiting until March to call your sprinkler guy is risky!

Also, don’t be fooled by this weather. It’s fake spring and second winter will be back next week. Take a nice walk and soak up the sunny moments!

The days are getting longer, can you feel it?

Right now, you’re probably buying seed and wondering what flowers might be easy to start from seed…look no further. These 5 flowers are easy to start and flourish starting as seed indoors, in winter sowing containers, or directly outdoors in the garden. Sunflowers should be started directly outdoors after the last frost. Don’t bother starting them inside. They’ll be just fine. The rest of these are great to get a jump on and generally deliver, even for a novice seed starter. Additionally, there are so many colors and textures of these seeds. You’ll have a blast choosing a color scheme. Happy seed dreaming!

Happy New Year! Going to continue to post and evolve the checklists this year to continue to help you on your gardening journey! If you got a calendar, you will have these checklists all in one place! There are less than 10 available at all places! Get it before it’s gone! I only have 3 in my hot little hand left! Hugs.

There’s really not a ton for you to do other than dream, plan, and order seeds! You’ll want to have your seeds in time to start them! Stay tuned for workshop offerings at Edwards!

Oh gal. It’s been a while since I have seen you. It’s no coincidence that I randomly found you in giant sunflowers…marveling. You didn’t know it here but sunflowers will always make you feel at home here on earth. They will continue to bloom, even in the hardest parts of your life. You will always find a way back to them in some way. I guess…what I want you to know going into 2024 is…all of that brokenness that you once thought plagued you…you can let it rest now..you can put it down…knowing that you weren’t meant to be unbroken. Take a breath. Let it all sink in. Every part of your life. Let it bloom and grow into what is authentically you just like the sunflowers that you so lovingly admire every year.

Today and going into 2024, I will remind myself that:
“My body is the garden of my soul.”
Deepak Chopra

The energy that I create when I care for my kitchen garden will also tend to my soul this year.

It’s good to see you, gal. Thanks for the reminder of who I always have been.
