Stay vigilant friends!!!
⚠️PSA/Safety Alert⚠️ Apple AirTag’s are becoming increasingly popular. In other cities, people have reported finding them in jackets, purses, backpacks, etc. AirTag's give someone the ability to follow you home, to work, etc. AirTag's are also inexpensive to purchase (approx $29.00 for one, or $99.00 for a four pack).
How do they work? According to Apple:
•“Your AirTag sends out a secure Bluetooth signal that can be detected by nearby devices in the Find My network. These devices send the location of your AirTag to iCloud — then you can go to the Find My app and see it on a map. The whole process is anonymous and encrypted to protect your privacy. Itʼs efficient, so thereʼs no need to worry about battery life or data usage”
•“When youʼve left something far behind, like at the beach or the gym, the Find My network — hundreds of millions of iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices around the world — helps track down your AirTag. AirTag is designed to protect your privacy every step of the way”.
•“Apple Air Tag batteries last for one year and don't need to be recharged, in fact, there is no way to charge the battery”.
Luckily there is a safety feature built in IF you have an Apple iPhone. (unfortunately, Android doesn't recognize AirTag's like iPhone does). According to Apple “AirTag is designed to discourage unwanted tracking. If someone else’s AirTag finds its way into your stuff, your iPhone will notice it’s traveling with you and send you an alert. After a while, if you still haven’t found it, the AirTag will start playing a sound to let you know it’s there. Of course, if you happen to be with a friend who has an AirTag, or on a train with a whole bunch of people with AirTag, don’t worry. These alerts are triggered only when an AirTag is separated from its owner”.
Always be alert and aware. If you find an unknown tracking device in your belongings, please call police to report it.
