Huge thanks to our Davao Team for their Barangay Cleanup with the Locals in Tagum City. Our volunteers joined community members to clean up neighborhood spaces and show what's possible when a community shows up together. Clean streets, stronger community, and a whole lot of Jitawesome energy.

To our Davao Team: thank you!

Nonprofit accounting comes with a language of its own—and you shouldn’t need an accounting degree to understand what your financial team is talking about.

That’s why we created our Complete Guide to Nonprofit Accounting Terms.

Whether you’re an executive director, board member, fundraiser, or simply someone who wants to feel more confident reading financial reports, this glossary breaks down common nonprofit accounting terms into straightforward definitions.

Use it to brush up on:

✅ Financial statements and reporting terms
✅ Fund accounting and restricted revenue
✅ Tax forms like the 990, 1099, and W-9
✅ Budgeting, forecasting, and financial ratios
✅ Bookkeeping, audits, internal controls, and more

Because understanding your nonprofit’s finances starts with understanding the language behind the numbers.

Today is International Dog Day!

An estimated 3 million dogs enter U.S. shelters every year, and the rescues, shelters, and animal welfare nonprofits working to find them homes do extraordinary work. Behind every adoption is a team keeping the lights on, the vet bills paid, and the doors open.

Grateful for every animal welfare nonprofit out there.

Your nonprofit’s bookkeeper just gave notice.

Now what?

When the person who handles your finances leaves, there’s suddenly a lot to think about: payroll, bills, system access, tax deadlines, grant reporting, reconciliations…the list can get overwhelming fast.

That’s why we created the 30-Day Nonprofit Bookkeeper Transition Checklist

This free resource gives nonprofit leaders a step-by-step plan for the first 30 days after a bookkeeper, accountant, or finance director leaves, including:

✅ What to tackle in the first 72 hours
✅ How to secure accounts and protect financial access
✅ Which payroll, tax, and compliance deadlines to check
✅ How to assess the current state of your books
✅ What to document before bringing someone new in
✅ How to decide whether hiring or outsourcing makes the most sense

A finance transition can feel chaotic. A clear plan can make it much more manageable.

Sending big thanks to our Leyte Team for their Tree Planting Activity in Baybay, Leyte. Our volunteers spent the day planting trees that will grow long after this quarter is over. A reminder that the best environmental work is the kind you plant now and don't necessarily see finish.

🌱 Strong growth needs strong roots.

As The Farmers Land Trust prepared to transition from fiscal sponsorship to operating as an independent nonprofit, they knew they needed financial systems that could grow alongside their ambitious mission.

And grow they have.

The Farmers Land Trust has more than doubled its revenue each year during its first three years. In its first partial year operating independently, the organization brought in more than $1 million in revenue and land donations — all while navigating the complexities of donated real estate, multiple entities, long-term agreements, and more.

With Jitasa’s nonprofit accounting team supporting the financial side, The Farmers Land Trust successfully completed its first independent audit and received a clean audit. 🎉

Today, they have the financial foundation to keep their focus where it belongs: protecting farmland and creating more secure, affordable, and equitable access to land for the next generation of farmers.

We’re proud to be part of their team. 💜

Hiring an accountant? Outsourcing? Relying on volunteer support?

There’s no single right answer that fits every nonprofit—but there is a better way to compare your options.

Our Nonprofit Accounting Comparison Framework walks through the pros and cons of different accounting models and highlights the factors that matter most when choosing financial support for your organization.

You’ll explore questions like:

✅ Do we need someone in-house, or would outsourcing make more sense?
✅ How much nonprofit-specific experience should we look for?
✅ Will this solution grow with us as our needs change?
✅ Are we getting one accountant—or the support of an entire team?
✅ Is the pricing predictable and transparent?

The goal isn’t simply to find someone who can “do the books.” It’s to find the right accounting structure for your nonprofit’s size, complexity, and future goals.

Today is National Nonprofit Day!

There are roughly 1.8 million nonprofits in the U.S. alone, serving communities in every corner of the country. Feeding families, protecting the environment, advancing research, sheltering animals, teaching kids, saving lives. All of it powered by people who chose mission over margin.

To every nonprofit leader, staff member, board volunteer, and donor: thank you for the work you do. It matters more than you know.

Grateful for our Cebu Team, who spent the day at the Mangrove Planting Activity in SRP. Mangroves are quiet workhorses. They protect coastlines, store carbon, and give life to countless marine species. Our volunteers rolled up their sleeves, got a little muddy, and planted with purpose.

🌊 To our Cebu Team: thank you.
