Meet Bradley Calaway, our VP of Row Crops 👋

Before managing multimillion-dollar ag portfolios, Bradley was baling hay, raising cattle, and running the roads with custom harvest crews across the Pacific Northwest—experiences that built his passion for western ag.

After earning his finance degree from BYU–Idaho, he went on to help source $120M in new ag business and managed a $150M portfolio at Rabobank. That mix of hands-on experience and financial expertise is what makes him such an asset to the farmers we serve today.

Long hours, heavy equipment, and high pressure can make this season one of the most dangerous on the farm.

A few simple reminders go a long way:

✅ Rest when you can — fatigue leads to accidents.
✅ Double-check equipment before heading to the field.
✅ Keep communication clear with your crew.
✅ Slow down — getting it done safely matters most.

👉 Stay safe, take care of your team, and let’s make this harvest season a successful one.

🌱 Out of the office and onto the farm—that’s where we’re happiest.

We may not be farmers ourselves, but spending time in the dirt, talking shop, and walking fields with producers is what fuels us.

That’s why we’re so passionate about taking care of the parts nobody enjoys—the paperwork, the phone calls, the tough decisions.

👉 Our love of farming is what makes us good farm managers. We understand what drives you, and we’re here to handle the details so you can stay focused on your operation.

🐄 Dairy heifer numbers are at a 20-year low—and they’re expected to shrink even further before rebounding in 2027.

What’s driving the shortage?
👉 More beef-on-dairy breeding
👉 Low national cattle supplies
👉 Demand outpacing replacement rates

For producers, that means rising replacement costs and limited herd expansion in the near term. Strategic planning and careful herd management will be key to weathering the squeeze.

At Root Ag Advisory, we’re here to help producers navigate these shifts with data-driven guidance.

🌾 The U.S. ag trade deficit just hit a record high—$28.6 billion in the first half of 2025. That’s $4.1 billion more than this time last year.

Why it matters:
• Imports are rising while exports lag behind
• Mexico and Canada remain top markets, with the EU, Japan, and China close behind
• Policymakers are using the imbalance to push new tariffs and trade deals

For farmers and agribusinesses, this means tightening margins and shifting markets.

👉 At Root Ag Advisory, we help producers navigate market changes and uncover strategic opportunities through our farm management services.

USDA’s August Cattle on Feed report shows:
✔️ Cattle and calves in feedlots down 2% from last year
✔️ Placements and marketings both down 6%
✔️ Lowest August feedlot inventory since 2017 📊

At the same time, wholesale beef prices remain strong.

This tightening herd underscores a critical point: in a contracting market, thoughtful decisions around inventory, timing, and marketing strategy will separate resilient operations from the rest.
