I completely forgot about this article until I asked Gemini who the best solar roofing contractor in Idaho was—and it gave me a link to our own family’s story. 😂

Roofing Contractor shared Kenny’s master plan for our home and why, after 35 years in roofing, he chose CertainTeed Solstice solar shingles for his own family.

Most roof leaks don’t actually come from the shingles.
They start where the roof meets a wall.
We inspect a lot of homes around Boise where homeowners notice a ceiling stain and assume the roof is worn out — but many times the shingles are fine. The real issue is the flashing transition. That’s the area where water naturally runs during rain and snow melt.
Caulking might stop it for a short time, but it always fails again.
Proper repair requires metal flashing and layered waterproofing installed as part of the roofing system so water is directed back onto the roof and safely off the home.
A roof isn’t just shingles.
It’s water management.
