Before ➡️ After: When a Tree Decides to Test Your Roof 🌳💥🏠

Last year, we installed this roof. This week, Mother Nature decided to send a tree limb down for an inspection.

The good news? The roof did exactly what it was designed to do.

The impact damaged the gutter and affected the roof edge, but the roofing system protected the home and prevented what could have been a much more costly problem.

This is a great reminder that roofs aren’t just about looks—they’re your home’s first line of defense against Idaho weather, falling branches, windstorms, and everything else life throws at them.

A quality roof system won’t stop a tree from falling, but it can make all the difference when it does.

If you have trees overhanging your roof, now is a great time to:
✅ Check for damaged shingles
✅ Inspect gutters and fascia
✅ Look for hidden impact damage
✅ Schedule a professional inspection after storms

Sometimes the damage is obvious. Sometimes it’s hiding beneath the surface.

One year later, this roof took a hit and still did its job. That’s why quality materials and proper installation matter.

🌟 WITA Spotlight Saturday 🌟

This week we’re highlighting Trish with Little Egg Solutions.

If you’ve spent any time around WITA, you’ve probably seen Trish helping businesses navigate websites, SEO, and online marketing. What makes her approach different is that she understands small business because she comes from a small business family herself.

When asked what inspired her to start Little Egg Solutions, Trish shared that her husband worked for a corporate SEO company that delivered great results but came with a price tag many small businesses simply couldn’t afford. Growing up, her father owned a landscaping company and worked incredibly hard while still making time for his family.

That experience led her to ask an important question:

“How could a father of five running a small business afford those kinds of marketing fees?”

The answer became Little Egg Solutions.

Her goal was simple: provide quality SEO and online marketing services at prices that small businesses—especially those in the trades—could actually afford. This summer, Little Egg Solutions celebrates 10 years in business, proving that affordable, effective marketing is possible.

💡 What does Trish enjoy most about helping small businesses?

Helping business owners cut through the noise.

There are countless marketing gurus telling people they need to be on every platform, buy every service, and follow every trend. Trish enjoys helping businesses identify what actually works for their company and their budget, creating a strategy that makes sense without breaking the bank.

💡 Her advice for women entrepreneurs just getting started?

“Hold on to your money as much as you can.”

Trish says that when you start a business, you’ll be approached by countless companies promising the secret to success. Her advice is to remember that the early years are supposed to be challenging. If you spend all your money trying to make things easy right away, you may not make it to year two.

And one more piece of wisdom:

“Try to avoid contracts whenever possible.”

❤️ One of her proudest moments as a business owner

Recently, Trish’s son graduated from kindergarten. During graduation, each child shared what they wanted to be when they grew up.

Her son said:

“I want to work on my computer.”

Afterward, they asked what he meant.

His answer?

“I want to work on my computer like you do so I can be home with my kids.”

For Trish, that moment meant everything. It wasn’t about SEO, websites, or business growth. It was the realization that her children see both the hard work and the freedom that comes from building a business with purpose.

At WITA, we love stories like this because they remind us that behind every business is a family, a dream, and a reason for doing what we do.

Please join us in celebrating Trish and Little Egg Solutions on their upcoming 10-year anniversary! 🎉

This Idaho Power bill covers just 23 days.

Our home used 469 kWh of electricity during that period.

Our CertainTeed Solstice Solar Roof generated enough excess power to send 1,485 kWh back to the grid.

The result?

A power bill of $17.69.

And that's before the hottest, sunniest months of the Idaho summer.

This isn't a sales brochure or a manufacturer estimate.

It's our actual home.

When people ask if solar roofing works in Idaho, this is why we're excited to show them the numbers.

Hawaiian Built Roofing is proud to be Idaho's certified CertainTeed Solstice Solar Roofing installer.

🏠 Should I File an Insurance Claim for Roof Damage?

After the recent windstorm in Boise, Meridian, Eagle, Star, and throughout the Treasure Valley, we’ve received this question several times.

Honestly, it depends on the size of the damage.

Before filing a claim, take photos and gather as much information as possible.

A small roof repair may cost less than your deductible.

A larger loss involving wind-damaged shingles, missing ridge caps, tree damage, or roof leaks may be worth pursuing through insurance.

Not sure what you’re looking at?

Send me a picture. I’m happy to point you in the right direction.

After 21 years of inspecting roofs in the Treasure Valley, I’ve learned that a quick conversation today can save a lot of frustration tomorrow.

📸 Found shingles in your yard after the windstorm?

Start by taking photos.

Those pieces came from somewhere.

This is why small business matters.

When people support Hawaiian Built Roofing, they’re not supporting a corporation.

They’re supporting families.

They’re supporting grandparents who get to spend time with their grandkids.

They’re supporting parents working to build something for the next generation.

They’re supporting little moments like this one.

Isaiah takes his role as big cousin very seriously. Kai and Mailani think he’s pretty awesome too.

Twenty-one years ago, Kenny and I started Hawaiian Built Roofing with a pickup, some tools, and a lot of determination.

We never imagined all the roofs we’d replace, the homeowners we’d meet, or the relationships we’d build along the way.

Today, seeing these three together reminds me why we worked so hard all those years.

To every homeowner, referral partner, employee, friend, and family member who has supported us over the last 21 years—thank you.

Your support helped build more than a roofing company.

It helped build a legacy.
