For this week's Project Spotlight, we are highlighting a partnership between Intermountain Wind and Solar and the Salt Lake City School District.
Their new, state-of-the-art district headquarters features a localized, high-efficiency solar array seamlessly integrated into the building’s award-winning green architecture. Designed for maximum efficiency, the exterior utilizes "smart windows" that automatically tint to control daylight and limit heat gain. To navigate strict urban space constraints and high canyon winds, engineers deployed a specialized, roof-ballasted system, securing the panels safely without structural roof penetrations.
The Project Profile:
The Hardware: 398 high-efficiency, 485-watt Trina solar panels.
Power Capacity: A 164 kW system built to significantly offset the building's operational energy use.
Built by Big-D Construction, this facility brings over 120 district employees together under one roof, serving as a powerful, tangible example of a real commitment to clean energy in our community.
