It has been a while, but when I have seed I want to make it available. There are 17 seeding variegated Sabal palmettos in Venice I have access to and I will be collecting seed on one starting this week. Variegated Sabals are very difficult to determine what percentage will come out variegated, and I can't make any promises on what percentage you will get from germinating them. With that said, I have had a lot of requests and the hurricane set a lot of palms into seed a bit early. I have named most of these palms according to markers or locations, and and the first few plants are coming into seed.
This week I will be collecting seed from what I call "Northside", these are typical variegated palmettos but they are within a block of one another. I don't currently have a photo of them, but I have a video of some a mile away that I call "Gated". They are identical in variegation which is probably 25 percent or so and very good for full sun planting. The video posted will be of the gated variety.
If I knew these put out a high percentage of variegation I would charge more but since it's unknown, I will set it at $25/100 or $200 for 1000. There are probably going to be 10,000 available from these two plants, and since they're so close to each other some of the seeds will probably have been pollinated from one another which I believe would increase the chances of variegation.
