Walk like a pair of penguins as you navigate through the cold polar air that has settled into the US the week. Maybe it will help with your balance! These penguins were wobbling through the penguin highway in Cuverville Island, Antarctica during my recent trip in December.

On my first day in Antarctica a blizzard decided to crash the party. Fortunately this was the only blizzard we encountered on the trip. The penguins went about their business as I photographed lots of snow!

So much to share from Antarctica! Photographing whales was a next level experience. Imagine riding in a Zodiac, a hi-tech raft with a motor, with hump back whales surfacing next to you. Both thrilling and exhilarating! They are much larger at eye level from the Zodiac then from the ship! What looks like jewelry and piercings hanging from the tail, are actually barnacles.

When is a black bird not black? When it's a Starling! I was photographing baby herons and pelicans across an estuary when a group of what looked like black birds took center stage. When I looked closely on impor, I noticed the gorgeous wings, metallic sheen and white speckles. They have pink legs and their bill is yellow only in summer. I am using an iphone app called Seek by iNaturalist to help identify different birds from my photos. I love mother natures surprises! For my tech friends - photographed with my Nikon Z8, 600mm f 6.3S lens w/1.4TC and cropped on the computer.

This baby fox stole the show over the weekend at the 2025 Highlands-Cashiers Art League Summer Colors show in Sapphire, NC. I photographed 'Bright Eyes' at my sisters farm from a pop-up blind using a long lens. Mommy fox kept a close eye on me!
