This tiny pest is creating big problems, and it has been a target of an “If you see it, stomp it” campaign. Harmless to humans, spotted lanternflies are a huge threat to the agricultural industry and can damage trees and fruit crops. They are now common across the Northeast and continuing to spread.

Leskey has worked with the USDA-Agricultural Research Service, Appalachian Fruit Research Station in Kearneysville for over 20 years where she serves as Station Director and Research Entomologist. She has published over 180 peer-reviewed journals, and has been interviewed by the New York Times, Washington Post and NPR on numerous occasions and has done several stories with National Geographic. Her research has focused on developing effective monitoring tools and management strategies for pests of fruit crops, including the invasive spotted lanternfly, and brown marmorated stink bug, and persistent native pests such as plum curculio and apple maggot fly.
