How to make your structures MECE?👀
🚩MECE is an acronym for the phrase Mutually Exclusive, Collectively Exhaustive.
🚩“Mutually exclusive” is a concept that says two events cannot occur at the same time. Mutually exclusive ideas would not overlap.
🚩“Collectively Exhaustive” means that the set of ideas is inclusive of all possible options.
🚩Candidates struggle with making their structures MECE, assuming that it's one of the key requirements at the case interviews. However not all structures can or should be MECE. In fact, only Math structures (e.g. Profitability) can be 100% MECE
🚩Frameworks, Drivers, Segmentations, Strategic and other types of structures should not necessarily be MECE. You should still try to to make them mutually exclusive and cover as many aspects of the problem as possible
