🌿 We're heading to the Massachusetts Association of Conservation Commissions (MACC) Fall Conference! 🌿

This year's theme is all about the science behind wetlands protection, which is something our ecologists think about every time they head out into the field. 💧

Find the BSC table on Saturday, October 24 in Devens. We'd love to meet you and hear what's going on in your community!

Plus, BSCer Rob Tyler is presenting that afternoon. Stay tuned for details! 🌱

Catch Caseylee at massFM 2026! 🌊

After the September 2023 flood in Leominster, residents sent us photos and stories from that day. 📸 We paired them with future flood modeling to map where the water went and where it's likely to go next. 🗺️

The result? More than 500 parcels where nature-based solutions could slow stormwater before it reaches the neighborhoods that flooded. 🌿💧

On October 19, Caseylee Bastien, RLA, CPSI, is presenting the project in Worcester. Heading to massFM? Stop by his session and say hi! 👋

🌊 Coastal flooding is rarely caused by just one factor.

At the 2026 American Shore and Beach Preservation Association (ASBPA) National Coastal Conference, BSC Coastal Program Manager Charlie Foster, ENV-SP, will present our work with the Town of Salisbury to better understand its growing coastal flood risk.

His poster will explore how sea level rise, storm surge, and restricted tidal flow through the Great Marsh can work together to increase flooding and put pressure on access to Salisbury Beach.

The goal: give the Town better data to identify vulnerabilities and guide future resilience investments.

📍 Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City, NJ
🗓️ October 6 | 6–9pm

Heading to ASBPA? Stop by Charlie’s poster and say hello.

🌱 Climate resilience in action in downtown Athol!

Last week, BSC joined Mass ECAN, the MVP Program, DER, the Town of Athol, and other project partners for a tour of Mill Brook Crossing, formerly Lord Pond Plaza. 🏗️
One of the biggest changes happening here? Bringing a culverted stream back above ground. 💧🌿

Since 2018, BSC has worked with the Town through the Commonwealth’s Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) Program on a design that uses stream daylighting, restoration, and green infrastructure to address flooding and urban heat, support biodiversity, and create new public open space right in downtown Athol.

The tour was a great opportunity to see the work up close, check out the construction progress, and talk about how community input helped shape what’s being built. 👷🌱
