If you owe taxes and can't pay them immediately, you might want to check out these two options for IRS payment plans you can apply for online ↓

Short-term payment plan: For individual taxpayers who owe $100,000 or less in taxes, penalties, and interest and can pay the entire balance in 180 days or less.

Simple payment plan: A long-term, monthly installment payment plan for individual taxpayers who owe $50,000 or less in taxes, penalties, and interest and have filed all of their required returns. There may be a setup fee with this option.

Just know, penalties + interest can keep stacking up until your balance is fully paid, regardless of whether you have a payment plan with the IRS.

The IRS may do a lot of things, but forget about the money you owe them?

That's not one! ❌

My first step isn't to immediately find you a million more write-offs than your old accountant...

I know, boring! πŸ₯±

These are the *actual* first few things I want to know when working with a new client:

β†’ What is your business's entity type and how is it treated for tax purposes?

β†’ Have all of your past returns been filed?

β†’ Are your books up-to-date (and do they match your tax return)?

β†’ Are payroll and contractors being handled correctly?

β†’ Are you required to collect sales tax, and if so, are you tracking it right?

β†’ What state(s) do you do business in?

β†’ Have you been making estimated tax payments?

Once I've gotten a handle on all of these things, I've got the foundation I need to start hunting for more tax write-offs... 😏

This may sound crazy coming from an accountant, but your tax return isn't *just* for the IRS.

Your tax return can be used by mortgage lenders, landlords, and banks to determine whether you can afford to pay for what you're applying for (like a house or business line of credit). 🏑

My point: business deductions reduce your tax bill, but they can also reduce the income that your business shows on paper. πŸ“‰

So, if you're planning to borrow money, you want to be strategic with your spending!

Depending on your goals, you may need to balance maximizing your write-offs and still showing a certain level of income. βš–οΈ

That's why working with an accountant who understands the big picture is SO important!

I know you don't want to deal with all the paperwork + red tape that comes with hiring. Truly, I get it!

But a new team member isn't magically a contractor just because you call them that (or even if you have them sign a contractor agreement).

The Department of Labor is pretty strict on the distinction between contractor and employee! πŸ”

If you're controlling how, when, or where someone works, providing them with tools + equipment, and they're doing work that's a regular part of your business... congrats, you might just have an employee! πŸ₯‡

Ignoring these "employee" flags and continuing to pay someone as a contractor doesn't make the problem go away.

You're just creating a way bigger problem for the future! 🫠

If you're hiring your first employee (or contractor) and want to make sure you're doing everything right from a tax compliance standpoint, I can help!

Everyone wants to know their next big shiny tax deduction (and trust me, I want to find those for you as much as you do).

But, there's something else entrepreneurs overlook that can have a BIG impact on your taxes:

✨ ENTITY STRUCTURE ✨

When you reach a certain level of profit, it's time to have a conversation with your accountant about whether an S corp is right for your business.

S corps aren't a magical tax hack...

But they can help you save on self-employment tax by splitting your income between W-2 wages and distributions!

Before you check that S election box, just know that electing to be taxed as an S corp can come with drawbacks, too. Like needing to run payroll, potentially additional tax filings, and more admin work.

Ready to have that "is an S corp right for my business" convo? Hit me up! πŸ“²

If you can't pay your tax bill, you've got a few options at your disposal, like an installment plan or an Offer In Compromise (OIC).

An OIC is when the IRS agrees to accept an amount that's less than your tax owed. πŸ’Έ

But first, they're going to evaluate your financial position (by looking at how much you owe vs. your assets, future income, and basic living expenses).

If your OIC is accepted, you'll need to stay on top of your tax compliance for the next 5 years to avoid defaulting on your offer.

Trump Accounts are officially going live this July 4th! πŸŽ‡

Here is what you need to know before opening one:

Age Rules: They are not just for babies. πŸ›‘ You can establish an account for any eligible minor with a valid Social Security Number (SSN). The child must not turn 18 by the end of the calendar year you make the election.

Contribution Limits: Combined annual deposits from parents, grandparents, friends, or the child cannot exceed $5,000.

The Government Bonus: If your child was born between Jan 1, 2025, and Dec 31, 2028, the government adds a $1,000 seed deposit. This bonus does NOT count toward your $5,000 limit.

Parents: Do not miss out on these new tax-deferred advantages.

Hitting "run" on your payroll software and hoping for the best is NOT a strategy. πŸ›‘

Between relief vets, barn hands, and vet techs, payroll in your industry is a regulatory minefield.

Missed deposit schedules or incorrect 941 filings can trigger massive federal audits.

Swipe to see the exact payroll paper trail you should have in place.

If these documents look like a foreign language, it’s time to outsource the risk.
