Last November I took a leap of faith. I closed my brick-and-mortar location to bring my youth empowerment programs directly to local schools, community centers, and Girl Scout troops.

I was nervous about moving away from a fixed space, but I knew I needed a model that would allow me to serve more kids while remaining fully present for my growing family as a grandmother.

Trading a stationary space for community reach turned out to be the best decision I ever made. We are making a bigger impact, connecting with more youth, and living a life aligned with what matters most.

Meet Brent Garcia, the newest addition to our Boys Empowerment team!

With a decade of experience in special education, adaptive sports coaching, and school recreation management, Brent brings an incredible amount of heart, energy, and expertise to our programs.

He believes that active, supportive engagement is the key to helping young people build lifelong self-worth through movement, teamwork, and inclusive play.

When he is not coaching or mentoring, you can find him weightlifting, catching a music festival, or performing magic. We are so grateful to have his positive energy guiding our boys!

It starts with a seat in the circle. It ends with knowing your worth.

Watching these incredible young women step into their power, support one another, and celebrate their individuality is hands-down the most rewarding part of what I do.

I am so honored to be instructing the upcoming Show Your True Self program at the Quincy YMCA, starting September 8th!

We are building a community rooted in empowerment, self-love, and authentic connection. If you know a young girl ready to grow her confidence and shine as her true self, this circle is waiting for her.

Over the years, I have always offered a photo shoot class. My objective is to help my students relax and get comfortable with the camera.

Oftentimes, my students feel awkward and don’t know how to “be themselves” in front of the camera, and when they are nervous and awkward, their pictures don’t come out the way they want.

So helping them pose, making them laugh, giving them some direction, and helping them break free of the “expectation” and shifting to making it fun and enjoyable makes for a wonderful shoot with some pictures they are proud of.

Seeing themselves in a new light can help them own and accept their beauty and feel good about it. When that happens, they are less prone to comparing themselves to others.

At least that is what I have found. It’s a step in the right direction of owning their beauty and being proud of who they are.

This is a picture of one of my students. We had a blast at this beach shoot, and the more time we spent, the more comfortable Olivia became.

So grateful to be a part of this amazing South Shore community! My desire to launch a community-based program has finally come to fruition.

It’s difficult, even for an adult, to keep up with today’s beauty standards. Our brains are fully developed, and we have the maturity and experience of navigating life’s ups and downs.

We constantly remind our children how beautiful they are and tell them not to compare themselves to anyone else.

Yet, I’ve had so many conversations with parents and close friends where we still find ourselves beating ourselves up about the way we look.

It’s almost impossible to escape the images of “perfect” people...you know, the ones with no wrinkles, no crow’s feet, no cellulite, no turkey neck, no beer belly…you get the point.

I can’t even imagine how a child is supposed to navigate this messed-up “perfect” beauty culture created by social media.

So, in an attempt to remind everyone (including myself): real beauty is in who we are, not what we look like.

Be a finder of gold in others.
Make people feel safe in your presence.
Treat your own softness as strength.

Now that’s true beauty 🙌

Confidence is not something you are just born with. It is a feeling you practice.

Look at that posture, that smile, and that “I am all good with who I am” energy. It does not come from being perfect. It comes from feeling secure enough to embrace exactly who you are.

In our empowerment programs, we do not just teach kids how to stand tall. We teach them how to own their story, back themselves up, and carry that internal confidence into the world.

When a child feels good on the inside, it shows on the outside.
