Remembering Arnie Bloch
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Arnie Bloch, one of the second generation of principals of Howard Stein Hudson. Arnie started with HSH in 1988 and immediately opened the New York office. He became a principal of HSH in 1993 and continued to lead our New York practice until 2013.
Arnie was a nationally recognized planner with comprehensive expertise in public involvement and facilitation. Arnie facilitated the task force and public outreach during the design and construction of the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, formerly Tappen Zee Bridge, the longest bridge in New York state. Arnie facilitated public engagement for projects with nearly every public agency in the tri-state area, including the New York State Thruway Authority (NYSTA), New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT), New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT), The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey (PANYNJ), the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA), New York City Department of Transportation (NYCDOT), Long Island Railroad (LIRR), Connecticut Department of Transportation (ConnDOT), and numerous others. Arnie also developed and taught courses for the National Transit Institute (NTI) at Rutgers University. He wrote and presented several papers and posters at the Transportation Research Board’s (TRB’s) annual meeting in Washington, D.C., throughout his career.
Arnie’s creativity, positivity, and unwavering friendliness played a vital role in the early success of HSH. His contributions helped shape not only the firm, but also the culture, relationships, and values that continue to define who we are today. While we mourn his passing, we are deeply grateful for the role Arnie played in our firm's history and for the legacy he leaves behind. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with Arnie's family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.
