In honor of Black History Month, Valentines, & International day of Women in Science, we want to show our love to these Amazing individuals (3 of the 4 are women) who gave back with all their heart, mind, & soul to create life changing advancements in the field of Science & Medicine. Dr Patricia Bath was an American ophthalmologist, inventor (5 patents), humanitarian, and academic. The first African-American woman to serve on staff as a surgeon at the UCLA Medical Center & the first African-American woman doctor to receive a patent for a medical purpose. Dr Alexa Canady is a retired American medical doctor specializing in pediatric neurosurgery. She became the first black woman to become a neurosurgeon and was the chief of neurosurgery at the Children's Hospital in Michigan from 1987 until her partial retirement in 2001. Emmett Chappelle was an American scientist who made valuable contributions in the fields of medicine, philanthropy, food science, and astrochemistry. His achievements led to his induction into the National Inventors Hall of Fame for his work on Bio-luminescence, in 2007. Dr Rebecca Lee Crumpler was an American physician, nurse and author. After studying at the New England Female Medical College, in 1864 she became the first African-American woman to become a doctor of medicine in the United States.
