In 2016, 1.9 million meetings were held in the United States, generating $845 billion USD in economic impact (source: Economic Significance of Meetings to the U.S. Economy Report© 2018 Events Industry Council) and this impact figure grew to a measurement of over $1 trillion USD in 2019.

While I've held this credential for awhile, it does belong alongside my VEMM certification (sharing this at the prompting of the ). CMP certification is typically an employment requirement communicated to recruiters in Fortune 500 companies tasked with hiring event marketing leaders. The CMP is recognized globally as the badge of excellence in the events industry as the qualifications for certification are based on wide and deep professional experience, specific educational requirements, and a rigorous proctored exam.

A Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) demonstrates current expertise in the best practices of event management. CMPs are uniquely qualified to set the direction for all decisions about an event. CMPs uphold a code of ethics and maintain exemplary standards of professional conduct.

While I've been designing digital experiences for years, the Event Leadership Institute's Virtual Event & Meeting Management certification (earned through the educational entity of the Events Industry Council and recognized by Meeting Professionals International) puts an exclamation point on that work. My cohort graduated in August of 2020. We are now even better positioned to lead our respective corporations and clients through their complex virtual, hybrid, simulive broadcasts/webcasts/meetings ... on budget, on time, and on target.

🍴We are all in this together! As of March 16th, the CDC recommendation is to cancel or postpone all U.S.-based events for 50 people or more for the next 8 weeks. Please consider the jobs of catering staff and others supporting the meeting and events supply chain before you simply “cancel” your event. If the venue can support the ex*****on of preparations, ask them if donating the meals will be as helpful to them as it will be impactful and appreciated by others pre and post the pass through of their immediate kitchen. If we can, let’s share and show how the meetings and events industry can take a bite out of global food insecurity during this CV-19 pandemic! The venue you’ve contracted can connect with a local agency with whom they typically partner and arrange for pickup.🍴
