On Saturday, October 11th, in partnership with the Boston Transportation Department and their Safe Routes to School team, we hosted a block party for the King Elementary School and the surrounding neighborhood.
The goal? To share information, and hear initial thoughts, about a bus-only pilot during drop-off and pick-up on Lawrence Avenue.
The feedback? Families AND neighbors love and respect the pilot and want to see it implemented permanently. One staff member who has been at King Elementary for 15 years said because of the pilot they were able to load students on their buses and on their way home in 20 minutes. The shortest load time she’s ever seen. Neighbors said while they have to reroute their morning trip, it’s worth it if students can get to school safely and on-time.
The bonus? Over 150 students, parents, family members, neighbors, and King Elementary staff were able to enjoy free plates from , vibes from , face painting and a take-home craft from , caricature family portraits by , and bike lessons from the team as volunteers! And thanks to our volunteer videographer, we can share some snippets :)
We love being at the intersection of public infrastructure, the built environment, and the people who are the soul of the city 🫶🏽
