A woman owned business, Pillar provides executive search/recruiting expertise and human resources for exceptional nonprofits and socially responsible for-profit organizations. I offer over 20 years of experience in recruiting and human resources, and a proven ability to build and maintain professional relationships. I have had the opportunity to work and volunteer with some truly great organizatio
ns including City Year, Lois L. Lindauer Searches, Junior League, Harvard Law School, FundQuest, Acadian Asset Management, and many others. In my years in executive search and recruiting, I have worked on local and national executive searches for Executive Director of Yestermorrow Design/Build School, Digital Marketing Director for Tucker Blair, President of the Emeril Lagasse Foundation, Director of Advancement for the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Vice President of Development for the National Young Arts Foundation, Senior Major Gifts Officer for the LA Philharmonic, Executive Director of World Animal Protection, Director of Development for U.S. Naval War College, Director of Development for Nantucket Atheneum, Vice President of Advancement for Pacific Northwest College of Art, Development Director for the Institute of Human Virology, numerous roles for Harvard Law School (including their prestigious Food Law Clinic and Berkman Center for Internet and Society), numerous roles within the investment management industry, and several roles for City Year, including national searches for Executive Director, Development Director, Director of Communications, and Director of Corporate Partnerships. I have also completed high level searches in the for-profit sector in investment management, sales, marketing, finance, financial services and client services. My human resources work has afforded me an opportunity to work with clients in both non-profits and for-profits, with an emphasis on improving employee productivity and promoting a strong organizational culture. I was working with outstanding clients with one of the top 10 executive search firms in philanthropy, but the number of searches I was required to work on doubled. The challenge too was bouncing between the personal, hands on nature of, say, a private celebrity foundation or an arts program and then switching gears to work with an enormous hospital system. I found that I was stretched too thin to really delve into the client’s mission or goals, and was losing focus on finding the best talent for the job. I was home one weekend, and came across the movie Jerry Maguire, and was struck by his infamous line: “The key to this business is personal relationships. The answer was fewer clients. More attention. Caring for them, caring for ourselves.”
I had my Jerry Maguire moment, and with that, Pillar began.
