My favorite place with my favorite people this winter. One of my most cherished winter memories was hugging this tree - the world's largest spruce! It's estimated to be 1000 years old. The rain slowly coming down through its branches was other-worldly. They just seemed to float gently to kiss the face!

HB26-1132 is submitted!

We (and so many other nature orgs) have been working with People and Pollinators Action Network to draft this bill which is now submitted to the CO House.

Here's the link to the actual filing if you want to read the entire bill: https://leg.colorado.gov/bills/HB26-1132

Summary: The bill builds on a few prior initiatives such as USFS demand for more native plant material and SB 22-199. Studies carried out determined multifaceted threats to the state of CO tied to the loss of regional plant species and pollinating insects. It is also being presented as a responsive initiative to Colorado's Climate Preparedness Roadmap.

Highlights:
1) Examining Colorado's existing native plant supply/economy/availability via a proposed CSU Extension study
2) Encouraging state agencies to utilize level III Ecoregion species in projects to buffer the impacts of climate change, urbanization, drought, habitat loss, etc WHILE supporting regional growers to fortify demand (encourage production).
3) Making State buildings and property reassess landscaping to consider pollinator support/health
4) Training and guiding agencies managing state lands to adopt mowing/grazing procedures which better support native plants/pollinators based on the 2022 research.
5) Encourage connectivity of high ecological value sites.
6) The whole thing is a great blend of prioritizing resilience in both conservation and local economy

Hearing date is not yet set, but there's no reason to delay some promotion of the bill and encourage such in others! Emphasis on this bill creating action to existing "on paper" initiatives/goals.

I saw this quote the other day, and it struck a heart cord. We are supposed to look for the helpers in times like this. We were taught to love our neighbors and to treat others the way we want to be treated. We were taught that no matter the race, ethnicity, age, gender, orientation, or ability, that we are all equal and deserve a place in this country, the right to pursue happiness, and a chance to make something of ourselves. To be a part of community and to help others when they are down. Not kick them while they are down and certainly not what is going on right now.

Take a moment to breathe and regulate the intense emotions, and then let's act in accordance to our values. Look to your own heart, mind, and spirit to find the way. That may look different based on how you can show up, but there is always something to be done. Safely.

With neighborly love,
G

The gentle pause. The fruitful darkness. The yearning for the future unknown. Leaning into faith and trusting in the divine mystery.

It is in nature and the garden where we see beautiful examples of these themes.

Wishing you a fruitful new year and bountiful harvest!

We're working on winter tasks with clients, prepping for upcoming spring work, and are busy behind the scenes with business admin planning, strategy, and more. Plus, plenty of naps with the pets!

October gratitude ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿค๐Ÿงก

A random collection of my moments of gratitude:
Many perennials are still in full bloom. Some are reblooming! Made the first stew of the season. Feeling nourished from the change in seasonal foods. Attended an event at the High Plains enviro center that was inspiring, plus taught one of our favorite classes at the Boulder Public Library. Plus, one cut gnome riding on a birdie.

Happy Autumn ๐Ÿ‚
