Independent Power

Independent Power As a local and independently owned business, we've been serving the Gallatin County and Colorado Front Range community for over 25 years.

Independent Power is on a mission to electrify homes & businesses, helping customers fully integrate solar, battery storage, heat pumps, and electrical service for a modern, pollution-free home. We have a team of expert solar, battery storage and HVAC installers committed to helping communities achieve energy independence and save money. We're dedicated to installing systems that merge the latest

technology with the ease of a single, local contractor. This allows us to undertake complex projects that other companies avoid. Our diverse portfolio of clients, ranging from homeowners and local businesses to large organizations like Rocky Mountain National Park and the U.S. Navy (where we developed a massive off-grid energy system in the Indian Ocean), showcases our expertise in serving a wide range of projects

We love been a part of our Montana and Colorado communities, and are proud to be of service in the charge toward energy independence.

Battery storage is becoming a standard part of the home solar conversation.

We’re seeing that firsthand: 80% of our projects now include battery storage.

The reason is pretty straightforward. Solar provides the power, while the battery provides resilience when the grid isn’t available. It gives homeowners more control over where their energy comes from and more peace of mind when the grid goes down.

And as energy prices continue to rise, there’s a strong case for taking control of your energy costs now rather than paying whatever the grid charges in the future.

Independent Power is an approved contractor for ClearPath On-Bill financing.

If you're a Colorado homeowner and an Xcel Energy customer considering a heat pump, heat pump water heater, panel upgrade, solar paired battery storage, or another qualifying upgrade, this program lets you finance the project with no down payment and repay it as a fixed line on the Xcel bill you already receive.

Approval is based on your Xcel payment history rather than a credit score. Financing runs from $1,500 to $50,000, with fixed rate terms from 3 to 10 years.

The program is administered by the Collective Clean Energy Fund in partnership Xcel Energy Colorado . We'll walk you through eligibility and the process from your first estimate through installation.

We built a custom page to help you see what your project would cost financed. The link is in our bio!

Every install tells the same story: energy costs keep climbing, and the sooner you lock in your own power, the sooner you can have peace of mind around increasing utility costs.

This is what taking control looks like. A system built to outlast rate hikes, designed around your actual usage, and backed by a team that's been doing this across Colorado and Montana for over 30 years.

Rebates and incentives shift throughout the year. What doesn't shift is the value of owning your energy instead of renting it from the utility.

There's something about an overhead shot that makes you appreciate the scale of a solar installation. What looks like a few rows of panels from the ground is actually hours of precise, coordinated effort from a crew that knows exactly what they're doing. From up here, you can see the planning behind every panel.

Since 1996, we've grown into a full clean energy company serving Colorado and Montana, offering solar, battery storage, HVAC, and EV charging under one roof. Still family owned. Still local. Still focused on real energy independence for the people we serve.

Most people know us for solar, battery, and HVAC. Fewer know we have a full electrical department behind all of it, running service upgrades, wiring battery systems, and keeping every install to code, all in-house.

That same team also handles general electrical repairs, remodels, and new construction wiring for homeowners who aren't touching solar or HVAC at all. Panel upgrades, remodel wiring done right, and new builds from the ground up.

Led by two master electricians on staff, the work is done right whether it's a battery install or a kitchen remodel.

Power outages don't ask for a good time before they happen. A storm, a stressed grid on a hot day, and suddenly the choice isn't yours.

Backup resiliency puts control back in your hands. Battery storage keeps the essentials running while your neighbor waits on the utility to turn the grid back on.

Heat pumps do something most people don't expect: they heat and cool your home with the same system.

Instead of burning fuel to create heat, a heat pump moves it, pulling warmth from the outside air in winter and moving it indoors, then reversing the process in summer to keep your home cool. Even in cold climates like Colorado and Montana, modern heat pumps are built to perform well below freezing.

The result is one system that replaces both a furnace and an air conditioner, with lower operating costs and a smaller environmental footprint than traditional heating.

When KGNU Community Radio designed its new Community Media & Cultural Center in Boulder, backup power was not just about convenience. It was about staying on the air during floods, wildfires, and grid outages, when local radio becomes one of the most reliable ways to reach the community.

We partnered with and @ to build a commercial microgrid for exactly that purpose: two 60K-3P-480V Sol-Ark hybrid inverters, 30 kW of rooftop solar, 120 kWh of battery storage, and an 80kW standby generator, all working together to keep broadcast equipment running without interruption.

Projects like this are why resilient energy design matters. It is not only about efficiency, it is about making sure people can still get trusted information when they need it most.

Ever wonder what's actually under a solar array?

Racking, conduit, and wiring are the parts nobody sees once the system is finished, but they are what can separate a good install from a great one. With over 30 years of experience, we build every system to last, and we stand behind it long after the job is done.
