This magnificent late 19th-century silver was made for the Great Synagogue in Lviv, Ukraine. The nearly three-foot ceremonial lamp—which is cast, chased, and engraved with elaborate motifs—is one of the largest silver lamps known.

Take from Psalm 36:9, the Hebrew inscription at its base reads: “For with Thee is the fountain of life; in Thy light do we see light.”
