Do you actually need an estate plan?
You don't need to be wealthy to need an estate plan. You just need to own a house, a bank account, or people who love you.
Here's the myth worth retiring: estate planning is for the rich. In reality, the federal estate tax only kicks in above $15 million per person in 2026 — most Utah families will never come close. That's not why people plan.
Here's why they actually do: if you die without a will in Utah, state law decides who inherits — not you. Your spouse and children are usually first in line. An unmarried partner, a close friend, or a specific charity you cared about? They get nothing, no matter what you would have wanted.
An estate plan isn't about how much you have. It's about making sure the people you love are taken care of the way you'd choose — not the way a statute defaults to.
Next up in this series: wills vs. trusts, and when you actually need each one.

Some days, you've just got to step away from the rat race...

Yesterday was one of those days.

I traded meetings, emails, deadlines, and the noise of everyday life for lunch on the porch with my beautiful granddaughter, Vivian...and yes, an ice cream sandwich.
I'd make that trade every single time.

Yesterday I gave her a baseball with a simple message written on it:

"Vivian, I am so proud of you."
She just finished her very first season playing baseball.

At just six years old, she was the only girl on a team of seven and eight year old boys. You never would have known it. She played her rookie season like she was an All-Star Hall of Famer.

💪🏽She wanted to learn.
💪🏽She played every position her coach asked her to play.
💪🏽She listened.
💪🏽She asked questions.
💪🏽She was incredibly coachable.

As her Papa, it was one of the most beautiful things I've ever watched. ❤️

While we were sitting on the porch yesterday, I asked her,

"Vivian, what was the hardest part about your first baseball season?"
She smiled...
She looked down for a second, grinned, and quietly said...
"All the people cheering for me."

It caught me off guard.
She loved having everyone there, but with all of our family and friends cheering her name, it embarrassed her a little.

That's just who she is...sweet, humble, and full of heart.

Then I realized something...
The very thing that made her a little uncomfortable was also one of the things that helped make her brave.
Isn't that true for all of us?
We all need people who believe in us before we completely believe in ourselves.
We all need someone in the stands cheering us on, reminding us to keep swinging, keep learning, keep growing, and to never give up.

Yesterday wasn't really about baseball...
❤️ It was about courage.
❤️ It was about humility.
❤️ It was about being teachable.
❤️ It was about family.

And maybe, for me, it was God's gentle reminder that every once in a while we need to step away from the things we think are so important and immerse ourselves in the things that actually are.

🙏🏼For a few hours yesterday, the world slowed down.
🙏🏼There were no deadlines.
🙏🏼No pressure.
🙏🏼Just a porch, an ice cream sandwich, a signed baseball, and a little girl who has completely tattooed her Papa's heart.
My heart and soul needed yesterday more than I even realized.

Sometimes the richest days of our lives don't cost a dime. They simply require us to be fully present.

Vivian, I hope you always remember this...

▪️You don't have to be the biggest.
▪️You don't have to be the fastest.
▪️You don't have to prove anything to anyone.
▪️Just keep showing up with that beautiful smile, your willing heart, and that humble spirit that makes everyone around you better.
Papa will always be in the stands.
Cheering your name!!

I love you more than you'll ever know, Vivian!
Love, Papa ❤️⚾🙏

P.S. One day, that little signed baseball may end up in a box somewhere. But I hope you'll always remember what it represented...not a great baseball season, but a Papa who couldn't have been any prouder of the little girl holding it.

Thirty years...WOW!!

For 30 years, The Christmas Box International has been helping children, families, and young adults through some of the hardest moments of their lives.

Capital Growth Management, Inc., and our President, Curtis G. Marsh, are honored to serve on the Board of Directors and as Chair of the Fundraising Committee.

This organization means a lot to us because the work is real. It is love in action.

As we celebrate 30 years, we are also building for the next 30.
We have created an endowment to provide long-term resources so that children and families in crisis can continue to receive shelter, safety, comfort, dignity, and hope for generations to come.

We also have our Black & White Pearl Gala coming up on October 3rd, and I would love to see more good people get involved.
If you are interested in helping me with our Fundraising Advisory Council, sponsoring the gala, attending, donating, or simply learning more, please reach out to me.

You can also reach out to Celeste Edmunds, our incredible Executive Director at The Christmas Box International.
This is a beautiful mission.
Every child deserves to be safe.
Every child deserves to be loved.
Every child deserves a childhood.

Every day at Capital Growth Management, we have the privilege of helping people pursue something that means far more than money. We help them pursue financial independence.

Financial independence isn't just about building wealth. It's about creating choices. It's about spending more time with the people you love, serving others, giving generously, making memories, and living life on your terms.

As we celebrate Independence Day, we're reminded of another freedom we should never take for granted, the freedom we enjoy as Americans.
For nearly 250 years, the United States has stood as a beacon of opportunity, faith, sacrifice, and hope. We are deeply grateful for the men and women who have defended those freedoms and for the countless blessings we enjoy because of them.

To our valued clients, thank you for your trust and confidence. It is an honor to serve you, and we remain committed to helping you build a future of confidence, security, and financial independence.
We wish you and your family a safe, joyful, and meaningful Independence Day.

Please note: Our office will be closed on Friday, July 3, in observance of Independence Day, and will reopen on Monday, July 6.
God bless you, and God bless the United States of America. 🇺🇸

Don’t just count your weekends… make every day count.

Last week, I had a conversation with a dear friend that caused me to reflect—on life, on business, and on what truly matters.

We started talking about how many weekends are left this year…

And like many people, it’s easy to find ourselves measuring time that way.

Then she said something simple—but powerful:

“Don’t count them down… make them all count.”

That’s the shift.

In business, we are trained to measure everything—
quarters, production, growth, performance.

And those metrics matter.

But after nearly four decades in this industry, I’ve learned something just as important:

The most meaningful things in life are not measured on a calendar or a balance sheet.

They’re experienced.

They’re felt.

They’re lived.

Because success is not just built in meetings, markets, or milestones…

It’s built in the moments we choose to be present.

With our families.
With our friends.
With the people we lead and serve.

Not every day is perfect.
Not every day feels like a win.

That’s life.

The challenges.
The growth.
The quiet moments.
The breakthroughs.

All of it shapes us.

We don’t need more time.
We need more intention with the time we have.

More presence.
More connection.
More purpose.

Leadership isn’t just about results.

It’s about alignment—
between what we say matters…
and how we actually live.

My dear friend and Mentor Steve Hardison says it best:

“We have just one life, so LIVE it large.”

To me, that means living with purpose, gratitude, and the awareness that every day is an opportunity—not a guarantee.

So as we continue to build businesses, lead teams, and pursue excellence…

Let’s make sure we’re also building a life that truly matters.

Because in the end, our greatest legacy won’t be what we accumulated…

It will be how we lived, how we led, and how we made people feel.

If you’re reading this, thank you!

I’m grateful for the relationships, friendships, and partnerships that have shaped my journey.

“Count your blessings. Once you realize how valuable you are and how much you have going for you, the smiles will return, the sun will break out, the music will play, and you will finally be able to move forward the life that God intended for you with grace, strength, courage, and confidence.”
— Og Mandino

That quote isn’t theory. It’s lived truth.

There were times when the pressure was heavy and the road forward wasn’t obvious. What changed wasn’t the circumstances. It was the decision to pause, take inventory, and recognize what was already in my hands.

Gratitude has a way of restoring clarity. It reminds you of your value. It steadies your mindset. It brings you back to center when distractions and doubt try to pull you off course.

I’ve learned that real strength is built quietly. Through discipline. Through faith. Through trusting that God’s plan is unfolding exactly as it should, even when the results aren’t immediate.

When you stay thankful and grounded, you move forward differently. With purpose. With confidence. With resolve.

Grateful for how far I’ve come. Focused on what’s ahead. 🙏🏼❤️

“Inflation is the only tax that never gets voted on. It quietly erodes purchasing power every single year. At CGM, we design portfolios and income streams that grow faster than inflation — because a retirement that looks good on paper but loses buying power in real life isn’t a real retirement.”
