Barren River Area Safe Space, Inc., which serves a 10-county region, launched a new mobile advocacy unit on Tuesday that will help with the organization’s outreach.
CEO Tori Henninger said this addition will “bring our community together to a point where every survivor will have the privacy and dignity that they deserve to heal.”
“This mobile advocacy unit is going to allow us to highlight the six counties that don’t have brick-and-mortar offices, and provide them the opportunity to meet with advocates,” she said. “Survivors should not have to hide. Survivors deserve safety. And that safety comes in the form of being able to meet them where they are.”
Aleasha Martin, Director of Community Operations for BRASS, said the “support of the community is something that’s very important to us.”
“It helps us to continue to do our work,” she said. “Our advocates work every single day to make sure that we are reducing barriers that survivors face when it comes to leaving an unsafe situation and moving toward a safer situation.
“One of those barriers is transportation. They cannot get to us, and if they cannot get to us, they cannot receive the services in full. So this unit really helps us get out into the community to meet people, to help them navigate getting to us, but in the safest way possible.”
