Saying bye to this account and moving on to new things ❤️ Please follow along at Ampersand Recovery & Wellness
A true labor of love. This project, this practice, this model and the work that it took - emotionally, mentally, spiritually, and even physically- to get here has been no small task. The name came to me upon waking up one day about a year ago, the logo was designed and perfected by my amazingly talented brother, and the website was beautifully designed by the insanely talented Meghan Johnston. The model came to me several months ago and I’ve worked my tail off and have run it through the fire 😜 with editing it, brainstorming with my amazing husband, and testing it out in my practice. Meghan created the BEAUTIFUL artwork that depicts it perfectly. Most importantly I can’t express the gratitude I have for my family and friends who have been here for us, listening to us, walking with us, loving us, laughing with us, crying with us, cheering us on, giving us feedback, and celebrating with us. To my husband who has been my biggest supporter, encourager, and teammate - I love you always. I couldn’t be more grateful for the journey and the gifts. ✨

Welcome to Ampersand 🔥🌱

RECOVERY.

It is for EVERYONE. Let me say it for the people in the back. IT IS FOR EVERYONE. ✨

🔹It’s for those of us with addictions…substance addictions and process addictions (control, caretaking, gaming, s*x, rage, image management, perfectionism…and on and on)…illegal addictions and legal addictions AND for those of us who love those with addictions (and not just adults).

🔹It’s for those of us who need recovery from toxic shame messages (I’m not enough, I have to be xyz to be accepted, I’m not loveable, I have to carry everyone else’s burdens, I can’t have any issues, My pain isn’t bad as so and so’s, so I don’t need help…and on and on).

🔹It’s for those of us who have experienced trauma…big gigantic trauma, complex trauma, small traumas here and there along the way. (Spoiler…that’s every one of us on this planet right now - going through a pandemic and its effects = trauma)
Need to know what qualifies as “trauma?” It is anything that causes physical, emotional, spiritual, psychological - and I would add relational, harm.

🔹It’s for the wounded child inside us who still feels desperate to feel love or acceptance. For those of us as kids who experienced Adverse Childhood Experiences (abuse, neglect, death of a loved one, life threatening events, natural disasters, children of war, parents with mental illness…and on and on.)

🔹It’s for those of us in toxic and/or harmful relationships.

🔹It’s for those of us with anxiety and/or depression (medicated or not)

🔹It’s for those of us who are tired, exhausted, defeated, alone, over-burdened.

🔹It is for humans.

🛑Recovery is NOT just for drug addicts and alcoholics.

Help me break the stigma around recovery. It’s not shameful. There is not a “type” of person who needs recovery. If you are hurting, if you are tired, if you are angry, if you are alone you can recover. If you are rich, if you are poor, if you are highly educated, if you’re a drop out, if you’re a therapist, if you’re a leader, if you’re a participant in life-you can choose recovery.

And guess what…we DO recover.❤️‍🩹

I love this and am so excited about this series! I often talk to my clients about perfectionism being a process addiction. It’s exhausting abs unattainable but so often so embedded in our belief system.

Episode two of our six-part Summer Sister Series on "The Gifts of Imperfection," with my sisters, Ashley and Barrett, dropped today.

In this episode, we start with Guidepost #1: Cultivating Authenticity and Letting Go of What People Think and move into Guidepost #2: Cultivating Self-Compassion and Letting Go of Perfectionism. Practicing authenticity — and yes, it is a daily practice — is really connected to boundary work, so we admit the individual fears we each experience when setting boundaries.

We also talk about perfectionism as a process addiction, and how our imperfections are not inadequacies, but instead they’re reminders that we’re all in this together. spoti.fi/UnlockingUs
