LOVE LETTER TO THE EARTH

WE ARE THE EARTH
At this very moment, the Earth is above you, below you, all around you, and even inside you. The Earth is everywhere. You may be used to thinking of the Earth as only the ground beneath your feet. But the water, the sea, the sky, and everything around us comes from the Earth. Everything outside us and everything inside us comes from the Earth. We often forget that the planet we are living on has given us all the elements that make up our bodies. The water in our flesh, our bones, and all the microscopic cells inside our bodies all come from the Earth and are part of the Earth. The Earth is not just the environment we live in. We are the Earth and we are always carrying her within us.
Realizing this, we can see that the Earth is truly alive. We are a living, breathing manifestation of this beautiful and generous planet. Knowing this, we can begin to transform our relationship to the Earth. We can begin to walk differently and to care for
her differently. We will fall completely in love with the Earth. When we are in love with someone or something, there is no separation between ourselves and the person or thing we love. We do whatever we can for them and this brings us great joy and nourishment.
That is the relationship each of us can have with the Earth. That is the relationship each of us must have with the Earth if the Earth is to survive, and if we are to survive as well.

Brenda and I would like to wish all our friends and family a very Happy Thanksgiving. As we reflect back on the year, we have so much to be thankful for. We have stayed healthy and been able to travel to some of the most beautiful parts of the US and Canada and spend time with family and friends. With all the turmoil in the world, we feel safe and enjoy the bountiful beauty that surrounds us here in Bozeman. Thru our hard work and successful business relationships, we have peace of mind as we move forward with retirement. To all the wonderful clients that I've met over the years, we want to thank you for your support. The places I've visited and the people from around the world have made it a remarkable career.

We went to Fort Benton on August 14-16, Fort Benton has a great Fort Benton Montana Museums and Heritage Complex. They have great displays and it shares the history from when the first Steam Paddleboats arrived up the Missouri. I shared a few photos from this trip -- food for thought. I was surprised to see 3 Canadian Miracles credited with "Saved Farming on the High Plains." Looking years later; I'm not sure summer fallow has saved the farm and it's proven to very destructive to soil health. At the museum they did show some early drills and openers that today is encouraging people to practice no-till farming. Overall, I found the displays are well done and very educational. Especially for the younger generations who have know idea how difficult it was settle the WEST.

Over 175 people gathered at the Sweet Grass Fair Grounds in Big Timber, MT and listen to Gabe Brown share his wisdom and stories on how ranchers and farmers can improve their operations. He spoke for over 7 hours and people were still asking questions. Gabe is now consulted on over 32 million acres on 100's of ranches-farms across North America. I have posted just a few of the slides that he shared thru the whole day. With the on-going drought, inflation, and ongoing challenges of agriculture today, ranchers and farmers seemed hungry for new ideas on how they can improve their operation.

I suspect very few people in agriculture read Vogue, however this is a pretty good article introducing the idea that we can use grazing to help manage/reduce fire. We need to replicate this across the western United States. I for one am tired of breathing smoke most of the summer.

Here is a peer reviewed paper that highlights several studies that shows livestock helping to sequester carbon. I recommend keeping these in your promotional toolbox and help counter the negative BS that cows contribute to climate change.
