At the Sept. Mississippi River Parkway Commission meeting in St. Louis, we heard about an exciting partnership opportunity with National Geographic's mapping division to create an extensive Geotourism mapping project for the entire ten state Great River Road. As the newly elected Pilot Pro-tem, I will assume leadership of the national organization next fall, and hope to see this project through to fruition.

I recently attended the annual meeting of the Mississippi River Parkway Commission in Louisville, KY, a beautiful Riverfront (Ohio River) city. It was a great meeting, with lots of new information on a variety of topics. I was very honored to just win the National Distinguished Service Award for the ten states along the Great River Road. Thanks to all who had a hand in that.

I just returned last night from a successful conference, winding down our two-plus year MIRC (MN Intelligent Rural Communities) project with the Blandin Foundation and U of M Extension. It was great to hear from several attendees comment on how their communities were better places, and more vital because of their involvement in MIRC and the assistance they have received.

I am enjoying my travels to new communities in the northern half of the state, meeting with and setting up workshops for business internet training for Extension. Last Fri., I was in Hibbing (got photo of Bob Dylan's childhood home), Virginia, and Chisholm, meeting great people along the way. Monday, Ryan Pesch and I did a lunch and learn session for the Minnewasca communities of Starbuck and Glenwood. Today, its the same in Browerville (with Long Prairie).
