Storm season checklist for your office:
✅ Use surge protectors on every workstation, and a UPS on servers and network gear
✅ Remember that a surge protector can't stop a direct hit, so unplug critical equipment during severe storms
✅ Protect phone and internet lines too, since lightning travels through them
✅ Keep a backup in a different location from your main system
✅ Test your restore, because a backup you've never tested is a guess

The FBI has been warning about this for over a year, and most business owners haven't heard it.

Old Wi-Fi routers, especially ones from around 2010 or earlier, are being actively targeted by cybercriminals. Once compromised, they get turned into proxy networks that let criminals hide their identity while committing crimes, all without the business ever knowing anything is wrong.

This isn't just a home-network issue. Plenty of small businesses are running the same outdated hardware, often with no dedicated firewall, and that router can be the door criminals walk through.
