My A.I.M. = Aging Intelligence Moment
This is "Sunflower" season. They are given special recognition and acknowledgement during the late Summer and early Fall. For the "Older Adult", every new year of life is full of new seasons to be celebrated, hopefully often. Sunflower stands tall with varying heights; the older adult stands tall in varying levels of wisdom, knowledge and understanding. The sunflower has its' own distinguishable yellow ray petals and dark inner disc. The older adult has the common headshot appearance of gray/silver/white hair. The sunflower has a strong/erect green stem with coarse hairs. The older adult is generally characterized for having upright integrity and being well disciplined. Sunflowers are resilient and Older Adults are resilient in coping with life's changes.
May Sunflowers and Older Adults always bloom in the seasons of their lives.

How old is too old?
I am sharing with you an excerpt from one of my “AI moments”.
Let’s be clear, My AI moment is not referring to Artificial Intelligence. It is “Aging Intelligence”. Currently, it is impossible to escape the red, white and blue political sparks around the topic of being “too old”. One’s age is a qualifier for many things and can be expressed in words or numbers. However, one’s action(s) speaks louder than words. I only advocate for the respect and recognition the older adult deserves.

The Family Meeting: The desired quality of life

Recently, I shared the last months of life with a friend who became ill and passed away without having “the family meeting”. Not the family meeting about her finances and administrative issues, but about what makes her happy on a daily basis. My friend wanted to live independently for the rest of her life with the support of family, friends and the community.

Everyone understood that her idea of quality living meant good housing and healthcare, but not everyone knew her personal desires. My friend failed to let others know her idea of good quality living. She shared them with me shortly before she passed. She wanted to cover up with her “Charlie Brown type blanket” every night and have a Pepsi and a bag of potato chips.
