🐭 HOUSE MOUSE vs. ROOF RAT 🐀 — What’s the Difference?

Think all rodents are the same? Think again! Knowing whether you’re dealing with a house mouse or a roof rat can make a big difference when it comes to protecting your home.

🐭 HOUSE MOUSE
• Small and usually only 2.5–4 inches long (not including the tail)
• Large ears compared to its head
• Small, pointed nose
• Tail is about as long as its body
• Excellent climbers, but commonly found around kitchens, pantries, garages, and wall voids
• Can squeeze through openings about the size of a dime!

🐀 ROOF RAT
• Much larger and more slender than a house mouse
• Long tail that is typically longer than its body
• Large ears and a pointed nose
• Excellent climbers and often found in attics, roofs, trees, and upper areas of buildings
• Commonly attracted to fruit trees, bird feeders, pet food, and other outdoor food sources

🔎 One of the biggest clues?
If you’re finding small droppings, usually about the size of a grain of rice, you may be dealing with mice. Larger, more elongated droppings are more likely to indicate rats.

🚨 Seeing rodents inside your home?
Don’t just treat the symptoms—find out how they’re getting in and what’s attracting them in the first place. Proper identification is the first step toward getting the problem under control.

Did you know insects have some incredible abilities? 🐜🐝🦋

Here are a few fascinating insect facts:

🌟 Ants can carry up to 50 times their own body weight.
🌟 Dragonflies are expert hunters, catching up to 95% of the insects they chase.
🌟 Honeybees communicate by performing a special "waggle dance" to show other bees where to find food.
🌟 Termites can build massive colonies with hundreds of thousands—even millions—of members, all working together to gather food and care for the colony.
🌟 Cockroaches can squeeze through openings as small as a quarter of their body height, allowing them to hide in tiny cracks and crevices.

While insects play important roles in nature, some don't belong in or around your home. If you're seeing unwanted pests, the team at Greentree Termite and Pest Control is here to help protect your home and give you peace of mind.

🐜 Think termites only eat wood? Think again!

Here are a few surprising termite facts:

🌳 Termites never sleep. They're active 24/7, which means they can quietly damage a home around the clock.

🏠 They're responsible for billions of dollars in property damage every year. Most homeowners insurance policies don't cover termite damage, making prevention especially important.

👑 A termite queen can lay thousands of eggs per day. That means a small termite problem can grow much faster than many people realize.

🔍 They often work behind the scenes. By the time you notice visible damage, termites may have already been active for months—or even years.

The good news? Regular inspections can help catch termite activity before it becomes a costly repair.

If you have questions about termites or want the peace of mind that comes with a professional inspection, Greentree Termite and Pest Control is here to help protect your home.
