Who am I? in Brea CA. I went to Mariposa elem.

I build Gates, Fences, Plumbing, electrical, drywall, paint,
install toilets, faucets, ceiling fans, switches & outlets My name is Mic Finnie and I grew up right here on Hazelwood Pl. in 1966 for kindergarten in the 1st. year that they opened and was in the 1st. class that went K-6 there. I was a Cub Scout, I was a Boy Scout, I went to Brea Junior High and Brea Olinda High Schools. I then went on

to the United States Air Force where I was an Air Traffic Controller in Germany. I left the Air Force way too early because I was too young to know any better! I drove a truck for a while and made a stop in Ohio that ended up lasting for about 27 years ; /
I sold cars for 20+ years and owned and ran an auto detail shop for about 7 years. I learned that I liked working with my hands a lot more than anything else that I have done. I ended up with 2 amazing daughters and once they were grown and off to college, I decided It was time for me to pack up and move back home! I Love Brea, and I now live close enough that I can see the street that I grew up on from my apartment's balcony and I can watch the sunsets each night. Now to me that is paradise! In the last 4 ½ years, I had the opportunity to spend updating a house that hadn’t had any maintenance performed on it in the last 30 years. Some of the improvements that I have made to this property to improve it’s value preparing it for sale include a new sink and faucet, or even a toilet. A freshening up of your living room, or the interior of your house or go outside and spice things up with something as simple as flower boxes around your yard, or maybe a new a modern style fence, a gate, you can call me and know that you are getting a local friend who can get the job done without taking you to the poor house!!! Oh BTW,
I also clean detail and polish cars! So if you want it done right! Call Mic Finnie!

A few weeks ago I started this project, it took a little longer than usual, because it was hotter than, well it was really hot!!!
The old fence was showing signs of wear! 🤣 so it was time for it to go, the fence was 100' long and looked like 100 years old. As usual the new fence always starts out with getting stained prior to being built, and a 2nd coat after. If it's not done that way, it's impossible to stain between the fence pickets and below the fence.
If you're not going to do it right, why do it at all? 😉

Today's job was to paint a bedroom. I needed to cover the floors with wall to wall covering so I didn't make a mess in the hardwood floors, then patch all the wholes in the walls, remove all the outlet & switch covers and wipe everything down prior to painting.

This is a gate that I built this week which also had an arch on top, but the customer requested that I dig down just a bit and pour some cement in the hole to keep the critters out of her yard. They had an issue with small animals burrowing under their old gate.
Well, one other issue was the stucco was just falling off hehe wall and I really couldn't attach my 4x4 without fixing the stucco first, so I removed the bad stucco and then repaired stucco properly, got it painted and then attached the 4x4 to they're wall so I could hand the gate properly. And the customer is very happy!

I wanted to show off some of the gates and pool equipment fences and things that I've made recently. Although I'm a general Handyman that can handle almost any job, gates are my specialty!
I've built patio covers, handicap ramps, storage units, fences, install toilets, faucets, vanities, ceiling fans, lights, outlets & switches. I do drywall work and painting.

This weekend I did a small job for a friend. His gate had seen better days. It was built poorly to begin with and well it didn't get better! 🤣
It was apparently level at one point but had been drooping down on the one side quite a bit. It had been like that so long the home owner thought the one side of the fence was actually higher than the other and wanted to make sure that I built that into the new gate. I got my 48" level out and it was perfectly level, it was just the old gate that was bad. He asked if I could add an arch to the gate, so yes that's two gates in a row that got arches. 😉
Teri does this gate look familiar? 🤔

So, I was at Home Depot today and this elderly gentleman saw my work shirt and asked if I was a "Handyman"? I told him, well yes, I was. 😁
He was buying blinds for a window but didn't have the ability to hang them. I told him I was free for the rest of the day so I could go get my ladder and come over to his house and get it handled for him.
I didn't realize that it was on the outside and would be hanging from the fascia board of his house but that's what they wanted. He said the old one was hung buy chains, but he had thrown them away. So, I went back to Home Depot and got a 2"x3" cut it to fit and used pocket holes and deck screws to attach it to the fascia board. Then hung the blind to it on one end and the fascia board on the other end. Not really easy to do on a ladder by yourself, but what the hell! The customer was really happy! 😉

One of my jobs this week was to build a new gate for this customer. They wanted one similar to their old one, just stronger and something they wouldn't have to replace for a long long time!
Their old one twisted when you held it from the side and when you looked at it from the back, the 2x4's weren't even level.
I built a strong frame to attach the fence pickets to, and then used tongue & groove boards to build the fence with. And of course everything was stained prior to being assembled so it was sealed and should last for many year's!
The customer was very happy and one more job well done! 😉

This week's job, fixing some flood damage. The drywall and trim had been removed from both sides of the wall. What made this tricky was there was a good deal of plumbing in the way so the garage side had to go up in two parts and have a few cuts in it. The bedroom was a little easier, but painting over dark paint is always a pain! 🫤 the issue was trying to find the 3" molding for the trim. I went to 3 places before I found out they used 3 1/2" trim and cut it down to 3". A quick trip to the table saw fixed that.
Anyway everything turned out really nice! 😉
